Towing with 2010 Dodge Journey
Hi all - need some insight/advice...
I would like to begin using my Dodge Journey to tow a lightweight camper trailer.
First of all, can my Journey do this? I have looked in my manual and it states that the maximum I can tow is 3,500 lbs. Is this correct?
Secondly, I will need to get a hitch installed. Any recommendations or manufacturers I should stay away from? Do I need weight distribution, anti-sway, and electronic brake control (as you can tell, I have tried to perform some research into this
)? How much should I look at budgeting for all this?
Thanks to all in advance.

Many DJs are used to tow trailers of different types.
Just check your drivers operating manual for the gross weight for the
2010 DJ and remember the gross weight includes passengers,
luggage plus the weight of the trailer + contents.
If you install electronic trailer brake controller(if trailer has brakes)
this will allow you to pull the actual total in a safer manner.

I also have a 2010 Dodge Journey R/T FWD and was trying to find out the exact towing capacity as it seems that it is linked to an extra which needed to be purchased when the vehicle was built ,Tow-Prep Package. This adds the necessary components to attain the 3,500lbs such as an upgraded oil cooler and 4 pin wiring harness. I was wondering if anyone new how to identify whether a vehicle has it or not?

Then in the area that says "Briefly describe" put "Vehicle Build Sheet" .
That will tell you if you have the towing package.

I assume this means that I am capped to 2000lbs towing capacity?
