Default Adding GPS to my new Journey??

Hello There.

Today I just bought a new 2014 Journey SXT.

Nice vehicle for damned sure!

My question is simple:

Considering I already have the 8" display on the dash board with the radio and all those little toys, how hard is it to add the GPS feature to this vehicle?

The dealer wanted another $1,200 ish or so to add that in along with something else. seems kind of expensive eh!

My display has the features like the Sirius radio, backup cam, heat controls, phone, why would it cost that much to add in the GPS feature isn't it already somehow programmed but disabled in the car?

anyway, I was just asking and it would be awesome if someone knew the answer to that one.

Thanks!

Each system is different and has to be added for what it is supposed to do. Its not programmed in the system. You have to buy the system with the GPS receiver and all that in it. Cheaper to get an aftermarket and stick it on the dash.

I've looked at aftermarket ones, and they're still $900-$1000 installed. The problem is that the system, even though it looks the same, isn't GPS ready. It doesn't have the software/hardware needed. So you have to buy it all and then on top of that, depending on what software you get, it won't cover the whole screen like the stock GPS radios would. It would only be a little part of the screen, I guess comparable to a handheld garmin GPS or something. The place I talked to was telling me about the differences, but said he could get it to fill the whole screen and look just like it would have if I bought it that way. But that was for the $900-$1000. I just bought another handheld GPS and threw it on the windshield. Not worth it for me.

I got GPS on my phone. Don't need it built in to the car.

This makes the best sense.....way too much money getting an in dash GPS when a $100.00 on special will take you to the same place!
