Hello Everyone,
My insurance company (co-operators) has a new program for discount rates. They offer this ODB2 device that constantly connected to the ODB port and reads driving behavour and is becoming popular amongs the insurance industy. My question is does anyone know if such a thing may lead to computer related issues? my understanding is that its only a read-only decive which records the driving behavour and sends out the info back to teh insurance company's database. However, if anyone knows or how any information how this device impacts (if any) the 2014 journey i would really appriciate it.

It’s a free, usage-based insurance program that uses a small, wireless communications device to collect information about
your driving habits, including:
!> Braking and acceleration
!> Distance travelled
!> The time of day you drive

I was offered this device to get a better insurance rate
but I refused to use it as it will not take into account
the external situations the cause you to brake or accelerate
past the posted limits of normal driving.
Nor does it know why you drive at any given time.
There is already a black box in modern cars that keeps
track of exceptional events i.e. an accident airbags/etc.
These devices read and store many of the same parameters
and really should not have any effect on the vehicle itself.

If it didn't benefit the insurance company, they wouldn't offer it.

 

You want to install a flight recorder on Daly drivers. Most of todays vehicle already have a flight recorder build into the cars modules. And you already have access to that information. And that OBD2 not ODB2. And will you device show the owner what their DTC are when the check engine lamp come on? And does the device work on CCD Bus, PCI bus, IHS CAN Bus, CAN C and LIN bus circuits?
