I have a 2009 Journey R/T and keep getting a P0430 check Engine code which is Catalyst Efficiency Below threshold Bank 2. I have reset the code and after 3-4 days the same code keeps coming on. I finally took the Journey to the Dealer and they are telling me it's the Cat Converter. which is $800 per converter plus whatever labor is involved. I've been reading online about this code P0430 and have seen that it could be an O2 sensor, Spark Plugs or Wires, exhaust leak or Cat Converters. I hate to just go spending $800 per Converter if the problem might just be one of the 4 O2 sensors. Has anyone had this same problem or issue with code P0430 and know where we should start or what is the fix to this code. Please help.

I would figure out which o2 sensor it is and go ahead and replace it.

 

It's Bank2 sensor 2, I just want peace of mind and make sure it is not the converter.

 

Did your mechanic ever figure out what was causing the code P0430 and what the fix was and if it was the O2 Sensors?
I had Dodge Dealer replace 2 of my O2 sensors back in Feb / March and seemed to have fixed the check engine light and code P0430 until the other day when it got colder out. My check engine light and code P0430 is back on now and wondering if anyone else is having the same issue and what fix is.

 

if the 02 voltages are ok, it will need a cat. View the 02 voltages and switch rate. I assume your 09 use narrow band 02 sensors

if the rear 02 is new and the front 02 is old and lazy, it can skew the cross counts the monitor uses to determine catalyst efficiency.

do not go with a cheap aftermarket cat...the low cerium content of the cheap weld in cats will just reset the efficiency dtc.

 

hey I'm having the same issue with my wifes journey. I have replaced both bank 2 sensors so far and it still comes on. how likely is it that the other 2 sensors could be causing the issue now?

My Creader scanner shows the live data and they all seem fine but also I dont know much about what im looking at i just know they are all kinda synced up with the other.

So I'm very very lost here and could really use the help.

 

If it was bank 1 you would have a P420 instead of a P0430, so I wouldn't expect a O2 sensor on one side of the engine to affect a sensor on the other side.

The way one sensor will cause a code for the other sensor is if you have a new O2 sensor after the converter and an old O2 sensor before the converter, according to another service manual. This is monitored at 1400 to 2300 RPM.

After the engine warms up I would expect the O2 sensor live data on 1/1 to look like 2/1, and both 1/2 and 2/2 to be a slower change with less voltage.

Any other codes? Look for any exhaust leaks too.
