Default Horn-beeps-3-times-and-doors-unlock

2014 Dodge Journey AVP

We bought this car in August 2014 with 3 miles on it (New). No problems until we cancelled the SiriusXM contract in 09/01/2015.

09/15/2015
I took my vehicle in to “Titusville Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Titusville, FL” for this issue. They could not duplicate and no codes were found.

01/14/2016
Since the issue has begun to happen more frequently, I took my vehicle to “Titusville Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Titusville, FL” a second time for this issue. Again, they could not duplicate.

01/25/2016
In order to get a different perspective on this issue, I took my vehicle to “Boniface-Hiers Chrysler Dodge Jeep – Merritt Island, FL” because the issue continues to happen. They were unable to duplicate the problem or find any error codes.

It was suggested that I “turn off” each door lock functions via the radio commands, one-at-a-time to try to isolate if any of the functions are causing the problem. That was done and tested that night. The “lock/unlock” issue still happened with each test and still continues.

01/28/2016
Got home from taking a short drive, locked the doors from the driver’s inside door button, closed the door, and the horn beeped 3 times and the doors unlocked (while I was still standing beside the door).

01/31/2016 – 9:00 PM
I went online to see if I could find whether others were having this issue. Below are posting that I found and I followed the suggestions given. When I went to the car with both FOB’s to test with, I would put one inside the car and the other in my pocket. Lock the door from inside, walk away (20 feet or better), but nothing happened. No beeps and no doors unlocking. I took the extra FOB inside the house, did the same test, and almost immediately the horn beeped 3 times and the door unlocked. However; it is now taking me 2-3 times to grab the outside door handle (passive entry) for it to “unlock”.

I am now convinced that one or more sensors in the door handle (if it has more than one) are going bad and needs replacing. Dealership will not verify that because they “MUST” have a code to go by, and they can’t duplicate the issue. Therefore, they refuse to replace any or all sensors in the driver’s door handle.

From the information I’ve gathered, this issue has been going on since 09/05/2013.

Why is Dodge not finding a fix for this issue?

They need to find what the issue is first. If they want to get paid for doing the warranty work, they need to show that they actually have a clue what is going on. If you can make the car do it when you choose, SHOW the service writer what is going on. Should make it easier for them to figure it out.

This is one of the problems with having so many electronics stuffed into new cars. The techs have no real idea how the system is supposed to work... so, even simple problems are beyond them.

Default Dodge Journey horn beeps

We own a 2010 Journey and all of a sudden about a month ago the horn starting beeping, whenever it wants too. It sits in the driveway, unlocked, no alarm on and it just beeps mostly 3 times whenever it wants too. I have read all of the comments and suggestions. Some one will be killed when their horn goes off at the wrong red light and a road rage incident will occur. Maybe then Dodge will look into this. I called Dodge this morning and they said that people are not calling them to tell them. So everyone out there call maybe they can figure this out. My neighbors are mad, other drivers are mad, something has to be done and I don't want to spend money on useless parts I want it fixed. Please call and complain. Thank you.

Hi 4bboysmom,

I'm sorry you're having this experience. We do have STAR case S1508000292 on file for 2010 Journeys, so your dealership should be able to look that up and see if it applies to your vehicle. It involves inspecting the horn switch, pad, and wiring harness. If you need help making an appointment, please let me know.

Who is paying for these inspections and the repairs? If this is an issue for many Journey's and you have a STAR case # then is it a Dodge issue or a me issue?

i am having this exact problem on my 2015 R/T. I just picked it up today from the dealer and they "couldn't replicate the problem". Any one have any updated information on this issue? I need to get this sorted out before the warranty expires. Sometimes I think that is what they want to happen.
