Just find a spot with good air flow and use a wire tie to secure it.

Also I am seeing after getting in the car it is saying external temp is -40. Does this mean the sensor is bad? I did tie it to the gill so it got plenty of air flow as suggested, Any way to reset the CEL or this reading without going to the shop?

Any auto parts store can reset the code. Probably a bad sensor, connector or wiring.

when the circuit is open, the display reads -40............check the wires first before replacing a sensor.

-uplugging the sensor should set a circuit high code and cause it to read -40.
-Shorting the wires together should set a circuit low code and cause the high code to do stored.
-one wire should have a 5volt reference voltage.

if those 3 thing occur...the wiring is good, replace the sensor
