Aftermarket Back-up Camera Installation - 2012 Dodge Journey SXT
Where is the best place to pick up the gear shift indicator "reverse" signal, if I am going to install an aftermarket back-up camera? The desired location of the monitor will be above the center vents on the radio console trim. (4.3 control display/no-nav)
So far, I have the camera installed, monitor installed, circuit protected, and checked for function. I just need the reverse input for the auto-trigger feature of the backup camera. The backup camera does trigger, if I apply 12V to the trigger wire.
Does anyone know if the signal comes from a transmission module or the gear shift mechanism?
I have no schematic to refer to. There is switched power at F107 (Backup Camera, if Equipped), but that is only live, when the ignition is in the Run position. F107 does not change state when placing the gear selector in Reverse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You could always get a signal from the reverse lights.
@ltb This vehicle has LED backup lights, so it was necessary to install an electronic filter that provides a steady 12V to the camera circuit (from the backup lights). Otherwise, I would get a pulsing on/off of the camera feed, and the display would not work. Once I installed the filter in the backup light circuit (inside the liftgate trim panel), the camera worked as it should. Hope this helps.
