Replacing the ECM 2010 Journey SXT
Just out of curiosity is it possible to replace the ECM with a junkyard part and not get it reprogrammed. I mean will the car run after replacing it. It says to order a new one you need the vin number, mileage, and tire size. I was thinking maybe that is just to set the mileage right. I don’t care if any of that is right. I just want the car to run right.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as I know the VIN number is stored in the ECM, instrument panel, key security module, ABS, and possibly other places. If it doesn't match things wont work. If the VIN number matches and all the options are the same from the junk yard car it may work but I think key module still needs to be matched up to the ECM. Mileage is to keep it legal and tire size is for the speedometer and possibly ABS.
In other words, no, it won't start with a junk yard swap with nothing else done..

So I paid $200 for a programmed ECM and they were great it was just plug and drive. Mine had corroded pins making the horn honk the battery go dead the throttle stopp working.... etc.. they solved the issues and you need to just give the milage and vin they take care of the rest and they are quick Check out MINT GLOBAL INC. it is the best way
