2015 Journey SE Won't start ,brake pedal hard to push
2.4 litre, mileage 47208. I drove it Thursday, no problems (started 4 times) I attempted to start this past Friday to run an errand. Unlocked with drivers side entry n go door handle. Step on brake to start, was fine, pushed keyless ignition, started cranking and stopped, brake became hard to push. All interior light, radio and gauges work. Tried various tricks I found online including disconnecting battery, push on/off button 5 times, shift to neutral, etc. Nothing works, having it towed to mechanic today. Any suggestions??

Daughter just had the same thing happen here is what the repair shop said it was the cable coming from the battery and at the brake switch was corrode they cleaned the cables, and it started right up $500 dollars later Now I called B.S on this but if this works, please let me know, I do not know if the cable was neg or hot and it was not corrode at the battery it was where it was attached to the starter or maybe a junction box I quit listen after he said 500 dollars .
I know this is an old thread. But maybe this will help someone in the future. What is causing this is the very poor quality driver door wiring harness. The security "brain" that reads the key to do the touch unlock feature is not getting or receiving a signal. That is why the open door close door hit button 5 times sometimes works. The opening and closing of the door moves the broken\breaking wire just enough to make contact and start. when it does this, hit the button until "run" is lit up. open the door and jiggle the rubber boot that holds the wiring harness between door and frame. I am willing to bet it will start right up on its own, not hitting the button or even having your foot on the brake.
I had been chasing this fault down on the wife's journey for a couple weeks, sat down, finally stopped chasin and started thinking. Opened up the harness and sure enough several of the wires in the bundle between door and frame were brown/burnt, broken or worn through. Spliced the broken/breaking wires back together and not only did it cure the hard brake/no start issue, but it also fixed a couple random window issues that were occurring. But.... about a month later it was back in the same boat, checked the wiring again and the fixed wires had broken again in another spot. So... I blame poor quality materials just going brittle waaaay too soon and recommend just ordering a new harness and doing the whole door wiring. It is not difficult, takes about 2 hours start to finish, and so long as you can play the old childhood card matching game should be no issues. Hardest part was finding one. Don't even try a scrap yard... it is common enough I really doubt you will find it. Dodge wants about $200 for a new, but you can find aftermarket versions out there for between 100-150. Anyways, my result new harness and there have been no issues for the last 9+ months.
Not sure on the years but a 2012 part number is 68068601AC
