Ear drum removed!!!!
Well that is what i have affectionately the air silencer. This does just that, silences the engine. I was looking into the intake system on this car, trying to figure out how to make it better. I started by taking out the filter to trace the air supply. With the filter removed, i noticed a little hole that the motor gets its air from. At this point i realize this air silencer has to go. I jack up the car and remove the front drive side wheel. I start to remove the clips and screws the hold the fender well, and front air dam to gain acces to the "ear drum" . I notice there is one bolt holding this in so i grap the sockets and go to work. The space was tight because i couldnt get all of the clips off, but in the end i pulled it out This thing i huge, restrictive, and in my opinion not needed. Before my car did not make a sound. Now the engine has a growl like an Impala, or Marauder. It sounds like a V8 now. I have not dynoed the car, but the car feels stronger now as air is more readily available. No wories about water ingestion, the entire chamber where the engine gets its air is "sealed". I am thinking of adding either some holes, or a tube to increase air flow. I cant wait to add the exhause and complete the sound.
