Trailer Hitch wiring
I need to install a trailer hitch, (2006 AWD HEMI MAGNUM), but am put off by the wiring harnesses ive seen that require running a wire from the rear of the vehicle all the way to a connection under the hood. I have never had to do this with any other aftermarket "T" type plug and go adapter I have used on other vehicles. Before I "BUY NOW", can anyone tell me if there is a easier way to do this wiring job??
Thanks, in advance.

I just installed the hitch wiring harness on my '05 R/T. I think the wire running from the battery basically powers all the trailer lights. I don't think it takes power from the factory wiring, just a small amount to trigger the box that comeswith the wiring harness to send power tobrake, turn, taillights on the trailer.
I agree, it seemed silly to run a wire from the engine compartment all the way to the back. I kind of cheated by attaching the wire to the battery terminal at the rear of the car. This seemed like a really smart move on my part until I realized there was no easy way to get the wire out to the area behind the driver's taillight. I ended up pushing a coat hanger through the cork-like material filling a hole in the panel behind the taillight, then pushing the heavy guage wire through there, and then through the access panel where you get to the wingnut, then behind the plastic trim panels down into the battery area.
This is not the ideal setup because the wire is resting near a sharp metal edge where it comes out of the taillight area, but I can reinforce it in that spot.. Although, I think it's safer than running along the frame rail like the instructions said to do.
It took a little over an hour to get it all wired up,I got the factory hitch, so everything is tucked neatly up behind the bumper.
I had the dealer install the hitch,$55well-spent. It looks like a real pain to do without a lift and experience!
Good luck with yours!

I installed a hitch to my SXT and that wire assumed the battery in up front. It's in the back so you don't have to run any wires along the chasis. It took me an hour to fit the wiring in place. It all went in easy.

I ordered the OEM factory pieces from DIRECTMOPARPARTS.COM for less $$ than the local dealers here including the freight! I'm anxious to see if there is a "battery wire" and if there is, where it is to be routed.
