ongoing airbag light issues?

No (insert favorite vulgarity here), what I am saying is pull your head out and understand how your car is supposed to work before you complain it is broke. You are supposed to sit down and read that entire manual front to back as soon as you get home since it contains all the safety information about how your new car works, of course most everybody knows everything so that’s a waste of time. You all like to complain about the dealer and their outrageous pricing. Where do you think we have to make up the money for time lost checking out cars that do not have problems, that right, from the next customer.
I think that if Brain had gone in and told the service writer exactly what was going on (or read his owners manual) then this car would never had made it to a tech stall. I'm sure he went in hollering about the piece of junk light keeps going on and off, forgetting to tell the SW about it's only happening as the load in the seat changes.
sorry, edit for spelling

We here are enthusiast not just the ordinary driver. I'm sure the combine automotive knowledge of this forum alone could handle most every issue that might come up. If we wanted the same corporate crap the dealership puts out we'd go to them. So if you cannot provide helpful information and only push the DC line why bother. I'd bet more than a few members here and around the Dodge world would go out and buy a scanner. How many of your regular would do that.
I'm sure we all have horror stories of going to dealership after we have carefully identified the problem only to be told it was something else. We get the car home and the same problem comes back. Another trip to the dealership to get what we told them was wrong in the first place. Tell me that doesn't happen. Dealerships deal with every one that comes into the services bay the same way. I do not know why but you all have nothing but contempt for the public. I've seen the short hand they enter into the computer. It often does not resemble what I just told them the problem is. These forums provide an alternative place to get information not to be told we are idiots or to, "Pull my head out." This is not the first thread I've seen from you. You attitude precedes you.
I wouldn't mind paying the high dealership pricing if they did a better job earning it. The dealership owner has huge overhead from the service department. They have to pay extremely high Worker's compensation premiums and liability premiums and the taxes are outrageous. They also need large cash reserves to pay for the mistake the techs make that the manufacture won't cover, (why should they).
FWIW: I and I'll bet a weeks pay a large number of members here read the manual owners manual. Some, me included, also buy the service manual. Even you have to admit there are things about the car that is not in the publicly availabel material. That is the knowledge we are looking for. So if you cannot post something helpful don't post at all. We are trying to help not, get lipped off by some tech calling names with a bad attitude.
I hadn't posted anything derogatory until Brian started with the whole “f^&cking tech” attitude. The very fact that he hacked into the CAN bus network told me all I needed to know about his abilities. Hell, he is on a rant about a system that is working exactly like it was designed to, a perfect example of what I am talking about. The biggest problem with "enthusiasts" is that a very large percentage of you (I don't care if you "think" otherwise) have no idea what you are doing but think you do-this makes you way more dangerous than the general public. I would much rather explain how a system works and attempt to correct a malfunctioning part or educate the customer on how it is supposed to work than to the "enthusiast" who wants nothing to do with me, but to tell me how to fix his car.
I have posted this before-these cars today are way more advanced and have way more systems on them the cars even 3 or 4 years ago, it is very easy to induce problems that were not otherwise there. I don’t need to come here for anybody’s help or advice, I have several others boards and a garage that I devote most of time to. I check in here once in awhile to see if I can save somebody a trip top the dealer or to avoid the outrageous fees. If you don't like my attitude, I don't give f%^k. You definitely wouldn't last an hour in my arena.
The biggest problem with our auto industry today is very people in relation to population have a clue as to how today’s cars operate, yet everybody wants be an expert on their car. I am not b!t$hing and moaning about my job, for the most part I enjoy it. Honestly the part I enjoy most is helping people, even if I only hear it once a month-“Thank You” is very gratifying to a tech, “I know what I’m doing and you’re an idiot” gets you put WAAAYYY on the back burner if you get fixed ever.
I don’t know what you do for a living but I guarantee if you were on a BB for your profession and I went there looking for help-even if I thought I knew what I was doing, I would never pretend to know more than somebody who actually earns a living doing it. Sometimes the guy getting paid to fix the (insert whatever here) just might have a clue, not always mind you.
OK, enough on my rant-you guys keep tearing stuff up and give that much more ammunition to you void. your warranties OK
PS, I very much doubt that any member of this board has a Star Scan
PPS The service dept of a dealership is the only dept that actually makes money, we pay all the bills of the entire store. Sales barly covers salesman and dealer principle salary.

[sm=sigh.gif]Wow! You sure put me in my place. Almost everyword you type displays the, "I hate the customer," attitude I have been talking about. So while I thank you for so clearly making my point I think it has gone way off topic.
FWIW I don't want to tell you how to fix my car I just want you to listen to what I tell you and fix it. I have lost count of the number of times the repair tech did not fix the problem. That's why we have lemon laws to protect the customer from techs. It is not because the manufacture messed it up it is because the dealer's tech didn't fix it properly. You might have the best testing and diagnostic equipment available but the rubber meets the road when the actual work gets done.
I know the services department takes in the most money. Profits on car sales no where near make enough to pay the bills. At $85.00 an hour for a tech I expect the job to be done right the first time. Strangely enough given you claim of helping people we are both working at the same purpose. Regretfully our combine past experience has left considerable scars. Thankfully for me I have the internet to get more complete information from those with similar experience and interests.
I forget did you give Brian any useful information[sm=dontgetit.gif]

Hi, I just got my SXT in September and had the airbag problem I think Brian is speaking of. When I started the car, the yellow light would come on then go out, and the red airbag warning light would come on and stay on... When I'd drive the car (seat always empty) the yellow light would go on and off if I hit bumps in the road. If I put my Laptop case in the passenger seat, the Yellow light would stay off (weighs about 15 to 20 pounds with everything in it) but the red light would still stay on. I read the manual before calling the dealer to see how it was suppose to work and determined that it was working correctly, I took it to the dealer, and they got it fixed the same day. I was told that there was a connector problem and a calibration problem. Not sure if it was both or one or the other, but it stayed fixed. I haven't had any other problems with the car since and I love the 6 Boston Acoustics Speakers with the factory 6 CD changer and 288 Watt amp, sounds crystal clear at full volume.
Okay, here is my issue. Hopefully someone can help. I have read through countless threads on this and I have not found a definitive answer. I have an 05 SXT AWD, I have had this air bag light issue maybe 6 times BEFORE I swapped out the radio, now that it has been swapped to aftermarket it happens 20 times a day unless someone is sitting in it (the passenger seat). I have done many radio swaps myself over the years; however this is the first time I have removed a “premium” system (Boston 6). Before I take it to the dealer and have them tell me that I am an idiot is there anything I can look at that may solve this issue? I do want to point out that it didn’t actually become so constant until about 2 weeks after the install. I have checked all my connections and everything is good. Please ask any questions that may help you fide a resolve. And yes, I looked at the manual. TIA
I can't honestly say that the radio has anything to do with your seat problem. You said the light stays out when someone sits in it. The fact that it didn't become constant until 2 weeks after your install, this leads me to believe that it's a coincidence. This problem of the air bag light is a known issue and as stated in my last post, it was a connector and/or a calibration issue with the seat pressure sensor. The air bag light is suppose to come on if there is something in the seat that weighs 15 to 40 pounds (about the weight of a small child). This disables the airbag system for safety. Mine was coming on and off with no weight in the seat.... ie a calibration issue with the sensor and/or some connector to the sensor. Take it in, they should fix it for free and normally within the same day.
Good luck
