Default H.P. upgrades equal SRT-8

I was looking at doing some mods to the Magnum.Heres what I have planned and the claimed h.p. increase.

Reprogrammed ECU +20 h.p.
Exhaust+15
Headers+20
CAI +10
ported heads +40

How can this be possible when Dodge had to raise displacement to 6.1 and raise compression in addition to the other upgrades to get the power the SRT8 makes?

Personally I question the reported gains by the manufacturers. I think that they pad the numbers to make more sales.

Even the best tuners in the world are not going to get that out of straight bolt on.Even if I was being generous and say half of what they claim, I don't think most folks would agree that that was being very optimistic.

I agree, to a point. But Ive noticed Dodge has a way of really corking up their engines a bit more than others. I found out why the Magnum is so spongy off the line. Dodge limits full throttle to 75% in 1st gear.

Now I know this isnt a turbo car, but an mandrel bent exhaust on a Spirit R/T is good for 30 h.p., a good cold air another 15. I might just have to hook up a restriction gauge on the top side of the cover to see how hard its having to pull air through the filter. A free flowingfilter should show very little restriction.

Mynumber 1 upgrade is going to be the ECU though. That 75% throttle crap pisses me off.

Also, as cheap as these heads are, Im going to pick up a set and rework the ports. Been doing heads for turbo cars for a while, so might as well try a set of Hemi Heads.

that 75% throttle cap in first gear is simply not true.

I got that from the Hennessey folks. It does make alot of sense though. So many of the newer Mopars get hammered off the line, but from a roll excel over others. Mabey they are over-rating the h.p. numbers, but I tend to lean twards gutting some initial power.

In the Cummins 12V trucks would lose pretty consistently 15% to the driveline on the dyno, the 24V trucks were losing 25% to the driveline, why is this? We had a seminar and asked the Chrysler corp exec this and he just avoided answering.

After all initial takeoff is the hardest on most vehicles, and when you have a warranty they do what they have to in order to minimize breakage.

So has anyone tried one of Hennesseys computers?

Mopar2ya thanks for the conversation, I have not really hot rodded my rides in a whilebecause when I really want to go fast I hop on my crotch rocket..LOL. I have been reading more and more about the modern mopar muscle cars potential and I am getting the itch. I would love to see the numbers on that restriction measuring you mentioned. I have not seen any numbers on the OEM cats v. aftermarket and I wonder how much you gain by going aftermarket with the cat-back and CAI, which I already have.

Interesting in deed.

Remember you just cant add HP numbers up On the chargers and magnums I have seen on the dyno, most exhaust are only netting 12hp at the wheels and thats from the best systems out there like Zoomers and Corsa. You simply arent going to get that from a Flowmaster haha
CAI intake, AFE in particular has never netted more then 5-7hp on the 5.7L. Headers claims are only 14hp on the 5.7L with High Flow Cats.

A local shop to me has a inground Dyno and works with alot of the chargers... They perform all the work on my SRT-8, you should give them a call. They are a vendor on the charger forums as well. Shop name is http://www.ProMotionTuning.COm

I appreciate the info. Im sure if you did the computer and CAI etc, then you may get a bit more benefit from the exhaust, but I have a suspicion theres some good gains in the heads. This would be why the heads on the 6.1 and 5.7 are different.

I suppose I need to stay focused on one project at a time.

i have passed the horsepower of a stock srt by a lot. the secrete to making big power in the 5.7 hemi is high compression.
