Default horn honk while locking door

Wondering if there is a way to stop the horn from honking when locking the door with the key. Kind of embarassing when you are late for church. Everyone knows then!

Any tricks?

I believe it is in the manual. You will need a SXT or RT, as I belive the SE cannotbe changed. If you have an RT, might be in EVIC. If you have SXT, I believe you need to doa combination of key fob and door lock buttons.

If its a R/T it is accessable via the EVIC. Hold down the music and compass buttons for a few seconds then scroll the menu.

Sorry for not getting back for such a long time, but we don't have the buttons on the wheel and the fancy computer on the speedo. It is a RT with premium stereo, but not all the other fancy stuff. So you say there is a way to do it stated in the owners manual? Pardon my ignorance, but what is the EVIC?

Thanks!

It's the fancy speedo display with the additional display info and steering wheel buttons.
It stands for "Electronic Vehicle Information Center".

from your owner's manual:
To lock the doors:
Press and release the LOCK button on the transmitter to
lock all doors. The turn signal lights will flash once to
acknowledge the lock signal. The horn will chirp once to
acknowledge the signal. If desired, the
Sound Horn On
Lock
feature can be turned on and off by referring to the
Customer Programmable Features of the
Electronic Vehicle
Information Center (EVIC)
section or by following
these steps.
1. Press the LOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds.
2. While the LOCK button is pressed (after 4 seconds),
press the PANIC button. Release both buttons.
The
Sound Horn On Lockfeature can be reactivated by
repeating this procedure.

Awesome, thank you!

My wife finally let me drive her car today. Not very often do I get to drive the Magnum. I really do like this car!

I have tried to set-up the locks on my SXT to unlock all doors (even the hatch) when ignition is turned off, no success yet even though I have followed the manual instructions.
I also have not had success with stopping the doors from locking after 15 miles per hour is reached.
Has anyone had success at achieving these changes?
Thanks
Jim

Default RE: horn honk while locking door

I've used both ofthe owner's manual procedures with no problem.
They willNOT unlock with ignition off - theyWILL unlock when the driver's door is opened.
Be sure to follow the steps exactly as written.
Automatic Door Locks
The doors will lock automatically on vehicles with power
door locks if all of the following conditions are met:
1. The Auto Lock feature is enabled.
2. The transmission is in gear.
3. All doors are closed.
4. The throttle is pressed.
5. The vehicle speed is above 15 mph (24 km/h).
6. The doors were not previously locked using the power
door lock switch or remote keyless entry transmitter.
The Automatic Door Lock feature can be enabled or
disabled. Refer to
Personal Settings(Customer Programmable
Features) in the Electronic Vehicle Information
Center (EVIC)
if equipped section of this manual
for details.
For vehicles not equipped with the EVIC the Automatic
Door Locks can be enabled or disabled by performing the
following procedure:
1. Close all doors and place the key in the ignition.
2. Cycle the ignition switch between LOCK and ON and
back to LOCK 4 times ending up in the LOCK position.
3. Depress the power door lock switch to lock the doors.
4. A single chime will indicate the completion of the
programming.
Auto Unlock
The doors will unlock automatically on vehicles with
power door locks if:
1. The Auto Unlock feature is enabled.
2. The transmission was in gear and the vehicle speed
returned to 0 mph (0 km/h).
3. The transmission is in NEUTRAL or PARK.
4. The driver door is opened.
5. The doors were not previously unlocked.
6. The vehicle speed is 0 mph (0 km/h).
The Auto Unlock feature can be enabled or disabled.
Refer to
Personal Settings(Customer Programmable
Features) in the Electronic Vehicle Information Center
(EVIC)
if equipped section of this manual.
For vehicles not equipped with the EVIC the Auto
Unlock Feature can be enabled or disabled by performing
the following procedure:
1. Close all doors and place the key in the ignition.
2. Cycle the ignition switch between LOCK and ON and
back to LOCK 4 times ending up in the LOCK position.
3. Depress the power door unlock switch to unlock the
doors.
4. A single chime will indicate the completion of the
programming.
NOTE:
Use the Auto Door Locks and Auto Unlock
features in accordance with local laws.
