Default RE: Installing GPS

Hey Guys, I checked out the http://www.moparsupercenter.com/ site but didn't like the dash mount GPS system they had for a 2006 AWD.
I've looked up and down for compatable GPS systems at stores like Best Buy and 2001 Audio Video (In Canada) and can't find anything worth spending the cash on.
Does anyone on the forum have an AWD Magnum, SXT preferably, and has installed a GPS Nav system, I don't care at this point if it's the stock version, just a nice looking GPS/CD/whatever else.

I'm really sorry to be bothering everyone with this, but i've looked up and down and can't find anything and it would be greatly appreciated if anyone can post pics and let me know where they got their GPS.

I'm VERY interested in getting a system ASAP!

Again, sorry for the bother.

I have a stock Nav unit in my Magnum AWD RT abd the pickup unit is in the front center of the dash. On average it picks up 7-8 sats in the info screne. I do not have the Sirus Radio but it is only an aditional $275 for me to add it to my car. Just plug and play. If you wanted any pictures of the dash I can do that for you.

Yeah would you mind posting pictures.

That answers my question that the stock unit CAN be put in an AWD, now the only other issue is the AC controls are different from the R/T.

This is my Dash:

And this is the R/T dash, the 2007 dash anyways:

So since I have that little compartment on my 2006 SXT, and there isn't one on the GPS Dash, I'm not sure how it will fit.
Would I have to upgrade my AC controls to the R/T ones just to get my GPS to fit?

CujoFreak - I would suggest getting an Eclipse Double-Din Navigation unit as they current have the best quality IMO. Otherwise get a Pioneer AVIC series Double Din nav system. What you do is purchage a factory dash bezel for a magnum that came from the factory with navigation. That will give you an enlarged rectangular opening in the Dash which will allow the installation of an aftermarket double-din nav unit using standard parts. I don't have any photos right now because my digital camera just broke but I'm actually doing that exact same installation as we speak and run an Automotive Restyling/Accessories shop in MN. I can send you parts if you like but I would suggest that if you don't have a bit of experience, that you let a professional install the nav system for you.

Great, thanks very much for all of the information. I'm definatly looking into those GPS systems.

Do you think I will have any problems with the AC controls? I assume that when I install the GPS I will need the R/T faceplate for my dash. But the AC controls are different from the SXT and the R/T, will that be a problem?

I posted pictures above of the interior differences if you need a visual.

I figure at least someone should tell you to consider a gps device thats not a dashboard unit. They're a lot less expensive and you can transfer them between your cars. The TomTom's I've used have all been great devices and they're a lot easier to upgrade and the cost is much better. The 720 I just started using is a great device and I think its the best thing on the market out there, plus I'm sure its a lot cheaper than any in dash system. Its at least worth looking into, but good luck with the GPS anyway, its awesome any way you slice it.

You will need the following to change to a FACTORY GPS system:

1) REC radio (Nav w/ 6 disk)
2) REC radio BEZEL (moves A/C down and removes extra pocket)
3) GPS antenna (mounts above A/C vents, behind BEZEL)**
** Stock GPS location is behind speedo, but is not necessary to install in the factory location

If you need pics of anything, I can try to find some, as well. I had the same set up and switched w/o any issues and a 'take out' system can run in the $600 range (plus bezel ($75) and antenna ($50)). The double DIN are nice, but are usually in the $1500 range after all is said and done.

Hey everyone.

Well i'm still racking my brain on what GPS system to get.

I came accross this system which I thought was pretty cool. If anyone has any pros or cons about this system i'd love to hear them.

http://store.mp3car.com/ProductDetai...Code=SDK%2D014

It has pretty much everything you could ask of a system, plus upgradeable hard drive and RAM. I am a big music fan and have a ton of music, so to be able to hold 62,000 songs on here is a dream come true for me.

My only question, this time, is if I were to get that, where would I get the bezel for it? From my dealer?

I've also decided on a set of rims i'll get in the spring. The American Raceing 20" Torq-Thrust M, on my black magnum i think they'll look great
