Default Next power adder mod suggestions please

Please help me choose the next best mod for my vehicle. Trying to stay around $1500 or less. I want the best bang for the buck, but leaning towards naturally aspirated mods first then NOS if I have to. I looked at cams which are only about $400, but KRC performance is charging $2500 for the install. Doesn't sound like a do it your self project. Anywhere else do it cheaper? I can get the all bells and whistles ZEX NOS kit for $1440 which will be about 150 HP. It is specifically designed for our cars which makes me feel better about the NOS, but like I said... I would like to stay natural as long as possible that way I have the power at my foot at all times.

Any help or comments would be much appreciated

a cam and head work would be next. but with out tuning, you won't get very far with it. the only tuning available right now is the CMR tuning and a diablosport predator.

a looser torque converter would also help. that is my next mod followed by a dyno tune with the CMR software.

I installed a stage 1 cam for $800 at Dodge dealer. I chose this because it didn't require changing pushrods or springs, ported heads were optional, and MDS wasn't disabled. It is kind of stupid but I like the fact I can still get 26 or 27 MPG driving80 with full load of wife and kids....assuming I ameasy with the throttle.

I wasn't impressed with the cam results but like Tony said, maybe it really needs to be combined with tuning to realize benefits. I did get great results from standard Diablosports 93 CAI tune...maybe now I will try custome tune at CMR to optimize for cam.

I have seen ported heads at High Horse Performance that also raise compression to SRT level (10.3:1). The added compression should add another 7 or 8 HP in addition to what the better flow adds. I think the heads would end up being about $3,000 with installation...so above your current budget.

I added torque converter for $600 plus $800 installation. The stock converter stalls at 2,200 RPM. HHP has converter made by Pro Torque that stalls at 2,800. Looking at dyno of motor setup similar to mine (and probably yours), motor puts out about 60 RWHP at 2,200 and maybe 165 RWHP at 2,800. Although only 600 RPM increase, it makes a huge difference in power/torque up to about 25 MPH. After 25 there is no advantage and you might actually loose a few horses. The next problem you likely will encounter is not enough traction to lay it all down. Although a lower rearshould be even better, this almost makes up for the fact our cars are gearedrelatively tall.

Bottom line, get Diablosport tuner, then torque converter, then cam, then heads. Probably most efficient to get cam and heads at same time if you can swing it...just my 2 cents.

Sorry, too much free time at work today...

kendon428...is your father in law modding as you mod, if so, you may never catch him, especially if he is running the LS1 SS, they are way better at puttin power to the ground and take way less $$$$ and effort to produce very good HP and TQ numbers, are y'all racing light to light or at a strip? New diff gears might help, but I dont know any of the who, where, what, or how much info. Running straight pipes may actually be hurting you, not sure about how much back pressure is needed to run correctly, guess when a valve hangs that will be the sign that you are running too little back pressure. Pro Charger makes a really good (as advertised) centrifugal SC, it is on HHP, dont know about roots style SC's, maybe someday the new Eaton (on the ZR1 Corvette) will be made for the Hemi....

kendon428do you have any cheaper suggestions to gain "less than 100 HP?" The short answer is no...besides no2 which isn'ta fair comparison. You are about right on your numbers, my car dynoed 345 RWHP and 380 RWTQ, which equates to about 430 HP and 475 TQ at the crank with 20% transmission loss. R/Ts are rated at 340HP 390TQ.

The point with the torque converter is that you won't gain any horsepower but from my experience is the single best thing you can do to improve out of the gates acceleration. Using a Diablosport Predator to increase redline (shift points) and shift firmness will also speed you up without adding horsepower. You will stayhigher in the power band longer. It all seemed to work,my car will run in the 4.5 s range 0-60, maybe better in cooler weather.

By the way, I am sure your 22" rims cost a pretty penny and I will bet they slowed you down. If your tire outside diameter is larger than stock this is equivalent to higher gearing, which I know from my own experience will slow the car down dramatically. You probably lost HP with your 3&1/2" pipes as well. That diameter is too big for the output of these engines. It slows down exhaust velocity and reduces scavenging.

As far as supercharger, I am still hoping Kenny Bell comes out with a twin screw type. All I have seen is the one mentioned above and the GSM which are centrifugal types. They addsignificant peak power but it has to build with climbing RPM rather than massive boost/torque from the get go. These might add130RWHP but will cost ya 7-8K installed. My car should smoke an otherwise stock R/T with a centrifugal supercharger running 6 psiboost for less money.

Good luck, you know what they say..."speed cost $$$, how fast do you wanna go?"
