Default Force balance for wheel/tires

We replaced the stock Continental tires with Goodyear eagles several months ago and after about 9000 miles, experienced a steering wheel shudder soi I took it back to Goodyear to check it out. Not sure why and just a bit nervous, but Goodyear replaced all 4 tires again under warranty, because their maion support office has apprently had issues with the tire. Makes me nervous about the next 9K on these new tires. Anyway, just recently we had a very slight shudder from the steering whell at 50+ MPH, so I thought perhas we had a suspension or steering issue. We took it to Dodge and they found nothing wrong. They did however suggest a Force Balance from a neighbor shop. I'd never heard of this, but it requires a very expensive machine that few shops have. We did it for about $40 and the car now rides like brand new - rock solid on the road again.
Apprently the Force Balance is able to determine any defects in the tires circumference and wheel anomilies. The shop can then determine which tire is best for which wheel and get an optimum ride out of the 4 wheel / tire combinations. They can so far as to remove tires from wheels and put them on other wheels, etc. We did'nt need that, but they did find a slight dent in one wheel that normally would not have shown up.

Bottom line, if you're having vibe issues, even very slight issues as we did, find a Force Balance machine and get one done. The car rides like new again. The Dodge dealer recommended this and said specifically, you'll likely fall in love with the AWD againafter this is done. We did.

Enjoy.

Default RE: Force balance for wheel/tires

I'm on my third set of tires trying to track down a vibration problem. I had each set road force balanced and it made some difference. I noticed last time though, that right after new set of tires was installed, I went to get in car and it was still sitting a little high like the suspension had not settled down yet after hanging on the rack while tires were installed.
On the first drive out of the shop with suspension not settled down, car rode like a dream, smooth as silk. Next morning with everything normal, I got the out-of-balance feel from the rear end.
Question is..would a bad strut give me the same feeling as an imbalanced tire? Would it ride differently after hanging in the air before settling down?
Sorry if this rambled on, any help is appreciated!

Default RE: Force balance for wheel/tires

I am having a heck of a time with my tires. I almost know that I have a tire with a slipped belt. They are the Goodyear assurance tires. It isn't a balance vibration, but a shimmy. It is bad at 36-50 mph. I have taken it to a goodyear store to check and they just rebalance them and shove me out the door. I am going to look for a "force balance" machine somewhere and see what it costs. I'd guess the machine would find a tire with a slipped belt wouldn't it???

What tires would a guy buy if he need to replace some. And I am never ever ever going to buy another goodyear tire! I have had TERRIBLE luck with these and numerous other goodyear models. Any advise?
