Which vehicle - the new Magnum or Charger - will become more of a longterm classic? And which vehicle will attract more passionate owners?

I'm gonna say the Magnum, for one it doesn't detract from the heritage of its name as the new 'Charger' does. Secondly, rarely do four door family sedans become classics, with a few noteable exceptions. But the 'Charger' will probably have more passionate owners. Owners of other vehicles that passionatly HATE the new 'Charger' for what it does to the name's history.

The Magnum...it is a blend of hot rod, muscle car and for that matter practicality. Nothing else out there like it.

I'm afraid DC goofed on this rendition of the Charger. Lots of Cahrger owners from the 60's won't acknowledge this one because it is a 4dr sedan. When they come out with the Magnum sedan(?), who can tell the difference?

I think they should have re-incarnated the Charger like Ford has done with the Mustang BUT...given the success of the 2005 Mustang, I bet DC and GM are busy designing new Challengers/'Cudas, Camaro/Firebirds! You heard it here first!!!!

The Magnum will....it is totally unique and as someone said many folks arent going to accept the Charger being a four door model. They should bring out a new Challenger and make it a two door sports car like the Mustang and I bet it would be a hit.

 

If Dodge decides not to build the Mgnum for too many years and keeps the production numbers down, the Magnum has all the makings of a true classic.

 

The Magnum most definitely. The '66-'74 Charger is ALREADY a classic, and this new one is an insult to that generation. For further reinforcement, refer below:

Mercedes can be both brilliant and dumb as a brick. They are brilliant for putting an E320 under the Magnum and pricing it affordably all the while giving buyers a choice of a fat engine if they want it. That's what almost killed Cadillac until they wised up. But Mercedes is as dumb as a terra cotta block when they don't appreciate the Charger mystique. And they are double stupid because at the same time they are basking in the glory of reusing the "HEMI" engine name - so much so the Mexican plant is overscheduled. You know all they had to do was watch GM screw up the GTO and that wasn't even a sedan! So here comes Mercedes - let's screw it up one better. BTW to show you Mercedes track record, they single handedly created the "grey market" for their cars when they refused to import the big engined 500 beginning in 1981. Like sure, give americans a 380SEL dog that barked and they'll be satisfied. CAN YOU SAY DUMB AS A BRICK???

 

I read in the Automotive News that DCX is getting "hate mail" from people who are offended by a 4 door Charger.
