fluttering, vibrating at 65mph +
My 07 SXT is 5 months old and I'm having a problem with the car making like a fluttering or slight vibrating sound at 65mph. The car is smooth and quiet at 60, 62, but as soon as I hit 65mph or faster, it sounds like there is buffeting or fluttering. I have the stock 17" Goodyear Assurance tires properly inflated. The car doesn't pull left or right, so the alignment seems fine.
The dealer resurfaced the front rotors, and force balanced all 4 tires and checked the pressure. But the problem is still there.
I searched the forum and found others with a similar problem, but no fix. It almost sounds like there is a window open to create that buffeting sound, but the windows are closed, and it's not the road surface.
I'm about to have the car serviced again, but wanted to get some ideas before I take it to the dealer.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I've had the same problem with my '05 AWD R/T. Seems like the dealer and the tire guys have tried almost everything, but it still comes back. Different severity and even seems to move from the rear to the front sometimes. Most noticeable around 60mph. Sometimes it feels like it's the tires and other times not. I've had at least three different sets of Assurance ComforTreads on it. Please post if you get any feedback or if it gets resolved. I'm to the point of just living with it, but would love to get it fixed.
I'm going to take it to the dealer on Thursday. I'll post their "fix". It' seems to be coming from the rear, but it's hard to tell.
It sucks, because I've only got 3K miles on it, and I thought maybe there was a break-in period and it would smooth out on it's own. My commute is 75% highwary, 65mph or faster, and I can't stand that slight vibration in a brand new car. If it can't be fixed, that's a deal breaker for me and I'll consider trading it in.
Maybe those tires are just crappy and should be replaced, or I drive under 65mph.[:@]

I notice the same noise with my '07 R/T. The only solution I have found is to push the accelerator down a little harder and the sound goes away around 75mph!!!!
I would love to hear to solution to this problem.....I was wondering if it was just my ears. My wife never seems to notice it.

The dealership checked the buffeting/vibrating at 65mph, but they couldn't hear the problem. They said they checked the tie rods, but didn't see a problem. So, basically, they found nothing wrong with the car.
I took it back to the dealership today, and had the service manager ride with me, but it was so windy, he couldn't hear the problem.
After wasting my time, and theirs, they found no problem.
I'll try again in a week or two.

Sounds like my experience. They couldn't find anything, so they started changing everything. I hope you have better luck and can report back some positive results. Good luck!

Well, I finally got the vibrating/fluttering sound to go away...by trading in the car. I could no longer ignore the practical aspects of owning a truck. So I traded for a Nissan Frontier and got slaughtered by the trade in value of the Magnum.
I really enjoyed owning the car and I'm sure it will be considered an American classic. Good luck to all.
