Default Ok, my first gripe with the Magnum

Filled up the car for the first time and ran into this issue. What to do with the gas cap?? I don't particularly like to dangle the gas cap against the paint so I just held it in my hand while refueling. After a day of thinking about the issue I came up with this. I super glued a magnet about the size of the quarter to the side of the gas cap. Now the gas cap can be attached to the inside of the filler door.

Great idea... I got to drive and fill up a Magnum this past weekend and I thought the same thing... I don't like things touching my paint on my truck, so it's a habit with other cars too. I mean, it couldn't have been overlooked when DCX made the car... so WTF? LOL!

What is so bad about a dangling gas cap? Better to have it dangle than drive off and leave your gas cap on top of the gas pump. You can always cut the short strap that anchors it to the car.

Just be careful when you remove the gas cap, gently let it "dangle", it should not harm your paint.

I just rather have it so the cap attaches easily to the gas cap door, instead of dangling.

I noticed the same thing - I think GM has a little lip on the door that you can 'park' the cap into, that makes more sense to me..

Mike, How about you making a plastic gas lip insert to fit on back of gas door. There are two holes to plug in into. You could make some $$$$$$$ selling them and maybe me a free dinner for idea.

I think it's Hagan or California
car cover that makes a gas cap that you don't have to revove, it has a flap that you just insert the gas nozzle into, I have one on my truck and it works great. Don't know if they make one for dodge or not but I am going to check it out.

My 99 Dakota R/T has a lip on the inside of the door to park the gas cap. Wonder why its not on all models.

The name on my gas cap is permacap, application chart only goes to 99 and cannot find a phone number but I will keep looking to find if it will work, I bought mine at a car show.

My 03 SVT Cobra Mustang had the same fuel cap/door setup. So I used the same 3M self adhesive hook I got in Target or Walmart for sbout a buck for 4 of the things. The hook holds the plastic tether and keeps the cap off the paint. If need be, you just pull the bottom of the adhesive strip and the hook comes right off without any damage or residue left behind.
