Hey all! Was wondering if the roof rack can be taken off. I'm looking at a loaded RT but it has a roof rack. I can't stand the damn thing.

yeah, it can be taken off. But it'll probably leave holes in the roof.

 

I believe it will leave not holes but studs sticking up.
It's the only thing my car doesn't have and I decided that it could be installed with expanding rivets but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble.

 

Talk to so guy named "grinner" around here. I believe he took his off.
It wasn't as cheep as he originaly thought, if I remember right.

 

Oh man.... I ordered my Magnum, as I will do so with every new car I purchase from this point on. I figure why get what they have, when I can get what I want? Anyway, I originally ordered my 2005 Mineral Gray RT with the Roof Rack, and thank goodness I saw one with the Horrid looking thing installed. I contacted my dealer right away and confirmed that they could delete that option before production, otherwise, I would have cancelled my order. How did they botch this one up so well? I figured it would be a recessed track type rack similar to the Durango Style, before they went an ruined it with the Ram Frame... But this Roof Rack is more like the Griswald's Roof Rack. It is surface mounted with top mount support bars spanning the top of the car. Looks like crap. I don't know how hard it would be to remove it, but I'm thinking, it would be a whole lot easier to get one the way you want it.

 

If you take it off, you will have studs pointing out of the roof.

 

The roof rack is one uglt option that should be discontinued.

I would NOT buy a Magnum with one of those things on it.

Maybe not a most handsome roofrack I've ever seen, but IT looks OK on my black RT.
I took off parallel bars though..

 

To each his/her own I guess. I wanted the roof rack on my Magnesium Mag because I liked the way it looked. Not sure if I'll ever use it, but it's there if I need it. I for one am glad they had it as an option. The good thing about it, MagnumRT, is that it's an OPTION...so you aren't required to have it

 

I know that the roof rack is an option, but I don't order my cars. I buy off the lot and choose from their inventory. I passed up a nice red Magnum RT because it had a roof rack, but now love my Magnesium Pearl RT.
