Default New Cadilac is cool, but...

OK, I saw the cool Stupendous Bowl Commercial yesterday about the Cadilac that does 0-60 in under 5 seconds. That's freakin' fast. But what they failed to tell you is what that car is going to set you back. (20% of you home?) I have read on a previous thread that the Cadilac will have an engine at 440 HP. I need that broken down into cost per Horsepower. I was initially thinking that this car would cost about $50,000 to $60,000 (or even more), or about $113.63 to $136.36 per Horsepower.

I have paid just under $32,000 for my Magnum RT, with everything less the U-Connect Hand Free Phone, Sirius Satelite Radio, Navigation System and a Sun Roof. All other 'Bells and Whistles' are there. Now I am sure the Cadilac's 'Bells and Whistles' will be far better than ours, but come on, leather, heated seats, dual climate control, 6 disk in dash cd player, electric passenger seat, etc... How much crap do you need in a car to go to and from work. To go to Home Depot, or to Albertson's?

My Magnum cost me about $94.11 per Horsepower, with room in the back for stuff that the Cadilac couldn't take home if it wanted to...

Now, anticipating the SRT-8 has 425 HP, as I have seen in articles, and that it would sell for about $40,000 or less, that would be a Horsepower cost equal to the current RT at $94.11 per Horsepower. I would much rather have an SRT-8!

I know that a Horsepower dollar amount means nothing, but I feel better knowing that I still got the better of the two deals.

Now I just can't wait for that Cadilac to go into production. I want to see Grandma going to Church, in the next town, in 7.59 Seconds flat...
Watch out, here comes Grandma's blurr....

You'll need to upgrade you Dollars per horsepower on the Caddy.
It's going to be around $70,000 for the STS-V model. That's Caddy's version of the SRT-8.
The CTC-V the smaller car is $50,000 with a 6 speed only.
I haven't heard the price on the XLR-V it's already almost $70,000 with about 330 horse.

The SRT-8's start at $40,000. They will be higher I'm sure. $40,000 plus Destination/Sunroof/ect.ect/Dealer Bullsheet

But you gotta love this SPORTS CAR REVOLUTION we're in.

Ha...

Exactly...

I was under estimating the cost of the Cadilac! I was going to say between $70,000 and $80,000, but without back-up, I didn't want some **** telling me what I'm full of. I know what I'm full of, I crap everyday just like the rest of you who eat...

However, I think $40,000 for the SRT-8 is right on, or high by a bit. Unless you have pot of gold and are willing to pay street price for these cars when they hit the market. Again, with no price back-up, I didn't want to under estimate the cost of an SRT-8. But I have seen an SRT-10 Ram Truck for $38,000 at a Dealership. I saw the same trucks for $45,000 at the other dealers, but that included a $5,000 jacked up sticker price, just waiting for some loaded fool that JUST HAS TO HAVE THIS CAR to come in and waste their money. So, if an SRT-10 is $38,000 on sale, I would think that a thrifty shopper willing to wait will be able to get an SRT-8 for about $40,000, or a bit more for the Chrysler 300.

With those figures in mind, why would you buy a Cadilac that is faster, when you can get yourself an SRT-8 and your wife an RT, for roughly the same price...

Hey, I like that idea, now I have to work on selling it to the 'little woman'....

I also forgot the gas guzzler tax of $2100.

Ah, ha...

Not if you get it on sale...

Even the SRT-10 Ram Truck was on Sale at $38,000 for ONE AT THIS PRICE... However, I checked my wallet and still couldn't afford an SRT-10.

But here is an actual purchase that I have an example of savings. ONE AT THIS PRICE ad. I was able to get a $32,000 Dodge Durango SLT for $21,954. That's like a third off of the asking price. I know I will not get that magnatude deal on an SRT-8, but there is something to be said for every single new car purchase to be Dodge. Smart. It also builds up character credit at the dealership. No one will give you a deal if they don't WANT to. Pay their child's way through college with your purchases, they have incentive to give you deals, instead of Joe Blow walking in off the street.

OK, waking up at the crack of dawn to find the ad and then waiting in the dealer parking lot for three hours until the manager showed up to unlock the doors also may have played into my favor, but...

Look for a deal, get it under $40,000, and tell Uncle Sam to chew on nails, not your $2,100 in extra fees!

Sorry guys, if I had the money to spend I'd be buying the faster, quicker, better handling Caddy.

Good choice! I drive a Dodge every day, so I'm not picking on them, I also have an STS. (Bought used) I can tell you, no Dodge will give you the pleasure of driving a really nice Caddy does, just a fact of life.

What they also don't tell you is that with Caddys, turn signals are optional (how often do you see a Caddy turn signal in use?). If you do get the optional turn signals, the left one is on permanently. Plus, the car won't run unless you're wearing white shoes, a white belt and pants hiked up to your nipples. Is that what you really want? [sm=smiley36.gif]

Man, are ever stuck in the '70's! If you haven't driven a Northstar STS or a CTSv, you don't have a clue what your talking about. A Deville DTS puts up better skid pad numbers than aMagnum R/T or 300c. Cadillacs aren't just for your Uncle Bernie anymore!

As the great philosopher, Foghorn Leghorn, would say, "That's a joke, son!"

The Northstar engine is a pile o' crap. They leak oil worse than a 60s British car!

I know Caddys aren't the geezermobiles that they used to be.
