Not to step on anyones toes, but here's one for you. I dropped off my 10 year old Caprice at a dealership for some work last year. They had to keep it overnight. I got a loaner. No, I didn't have any warranty. No, I didn't buy the car, or any other vehicle from that dealer. It just shows that some dealers have their own way of doing things. You want to have future business, you have to please the customers, not just the big spenders but all of them.

I guess you know that because you just hang out there everyday and are involved in every customers visit.

We make every attempt to make loaner cars available but we only have so many cars so there many factors that determine who gets a car. For instance, out of towners typically do not get a car; if we have to choose between 2 customers the one who bought from us vs. the dealer in the next town gets the car. If we run low, whining customers don't get a car. We always try to give cars to customers with less than 15K miles (CSI survey customers).

Yes, we have an Enterprise on sight but the dealer principle isn't going to pay for a car until the customer is jumping up and down in his office. It's simple economics, warranty work does not pay very well, in fact in some cases in actually costs us money to fix your car. Why is going to lose more money renting a car unless he has to.

Parts changers huh? I'll bet you a months salary you couldn't have fixed one of the cars I have worked on so far this week. It's real easy to say "parts changers" when you don't have to spend the time to figure out which part to change.
I'd be happy to take your bet. You have no clue as to my mechanical ability. I'm sure the same mistake is made with customers who come to the dealership. Don't underestimate the customer. I rebuilt the motor in my old 1963 slanting 6 cylinder in 1966. I've owned countless cars over the years and they are my hobby. I understand them and I can diagnose problems. I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I'm pretty good. .

On the loaner issue... I know it because the policy is right there on the wall in writing in the dealership.

I started this thread with a simple question and you responded with a very negative post. I took offense. I'll let it drop here.

WE ARE TALKING ABOUT RENTALS, NOT LOANERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TOTALLY DIFFERENT. DODGE MECH IS RIGHT, BUT HE IS ONLY HUMAN AND PROBLY ISN'T RIGHT ALL OF THE TIME. IF YOU GUYS DIDN'T KNOW HE WORKED FOR A DEALERSHIP YOU WOULD BUST HISS NUTS FOR SOMETHING ELSE. BOTTOM LINE IS YOU GUYS HAVE TO BITCH ABOUT SOMETHING SO WHY NOT BITCH AT THE GUY YOU HAVE TO PAY TO FIX YOUR CAR THAT CAN NEVER DO IT FAST ENOUGH OR THE WAY YOU WOULD HAVE DONE IT. LAY OFF THE GUY. GO BITCH AT THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE CAR THAT COULDN'T MAKE IT GOOD ENOUGH THE FIRST TIME. SORRY BUT CAN'T STAND IGNORANCE. NOT EVERYBODY IS PERFECT. SO STOP THROWIN STONES. BY THE WAY NISSAN WON'T PAY FOR A RENTAL, YOUR CONTRACT IS DIFFERENT FROM AN INDIVIDUAL DEALER POLICY. IF YOU DO GET A RENTAL ASK WHO IS PAYING FOR IT. THE DEALER MAY PAY FOR IT, NOT THE MANUFACTURER. PROVE ME WRONG BY POSTING AN EXACT COPY OF THE WARRANTY POSTED ON THE NET. I KNOW NISSAN DOES IT, I AM NOT SURE IF THE REST DO NOR AM I GOING TO TAKE THE TIME TO LOOK. FIND THE SPOT THAT SAYS THEY WILL PAY FOR A RENTAL. THEN YOU CAN TELL ME TO STICK IT. AGAIN MAKE SURE ITS THE MANUFACTURER STATEMENT, NOT THE DEALER.

Way to revive a thread that went way off-topic to begin with. Great job. Nissan policy? Who cares, Nissan never entered the thread until you brought it up. The point most of us tried to make is it is up to individual Dealer's to make customers happy. The manufacturer has little to nothing to do with it.

Since it came up again...why should the dealer have to go out of his way and spend money to rent every customer a car? Why do feel it is up the dealer principle to please you? You bought a car-it broke-oh well. If your computer breaks does the computer store give you a loaner while it's being fixed? When the phone lines go down does Pac Bell give everyone a cell phone to use while they are being fixed? Americans have gotten so dependent on "deserving" everything. Why do you deserve a car to drive while yours is in the shop? Is it because you are gracing the dealership with opportunity to lose money by performing the warranty repairs on your car?

Just pointing out the obvious guys, I don’t care what you do for a living; I’m sure you have “jerk†customers that think the whole world should stop and take care of them first. That is how this thread sounds.

My dealership provides a rental car from Enterprise for every under warranty repair. Then again, my dealership was Time Magazines dealership of the year award winner for 2004. I have a Magnum and a Mazda from the dealership. The dealership eats the cost...not Dodge.

I think Denny makes a fair point in this case. I am guilty of some Dealer bashing myself at times. Fair is Fair though. IMO the Dealer does not owe everyone a loaner car everytime there's a problem. It is a wise policy for the Dealer to provide one in some circumstances if they want return business. If the Dealer has screwed up a repair for instance. The Dealer should fix always fix what they screw up with no questions asked. When a warranty repair is required it is DC that owes you a quality fix. The Dealer owes you only what DC pays for on warranty work. Just my .02

To bypass all the rest of the thread. I had the passenger air bag light too. All it took was a re-calibration of the seat sensor. When I brought it in and said the passenger light would not go out, the guy taking the info can me a smile and said "enough said". I guess it is a common prob. 30 min later it was re-calibrated and hasnt come on since.
