Check Engine Light came on at 2500 miles
I 'goosed' the engine the other night to change lanes. It was a momentary blip of the thottle and the check engine light came on. Unlike my Chevys, shutting the car off and restarting it did not clear the code. It stayed on the next day after several starts. Then I decided to down-shift and the light went out. Any idea how to manually clear codes? How about checking the codes that might be set without using a scanner? Anybody else had this happen?
I know I've said this a thousand times on this board....PLEASE DO NOT EVER CLEAR FAULTS. It is virtually impossible to diagnose later after you have cleared them. I have ZERO compassion, in fact I purposely take longer to either hold the car overnight or charge the customer more money for making my job that much harder. The average person has no business doing anything with the NGC, you don't have the ability to properly read the information and for sure don't know what to do with it once you have it. Take it to a professional and let him fix it.
I know I'm not nearly as smart as the technicians at my local dealership. In fact, the only time I took my car to those professionals, the rocket scientist that had the sole responsibility to remove one of the grill inserts that was chipped by these same experts when they were prepping the car for delivery, left the cover that snaps above the front valence laying on top of my engine cover (Naturally with the metal prongs down). They ruined it and I had to have them replace it. No offense to you, but if I can avoid the 'Service' department at ANY dealership, be it Chevy, Toyota, Dodge, I certainly do it.
If a code is set ONCE and I can reset it and it doesn't happen again, I'm certainly not going to the dealership after the fact and mention it (See paragraph one about how I feel about going to the dealership). If it doesn't happen again, I'm fine with it as just an anomoly. The second time it happens, then I grit my teeth and visit my friendly Dodge dealer.

Have 6500 miles on my RT, no problems or check lights.

Hey DodgeMech, ever think of moving to Florida?
I sure ain't moving to Calif.

The fact is, these forums provide a service that the dealerships don't. I took my C4 Corvette to the dealer to try to diagnose a problem with a faulty airbag indicator. Through the forum, I was able to correct a problem with the inflatable restraint that never returned. On my C5, using information from the Corvette Forum, I was able to purchase and install a column lock bypass kit that remedied a problem that GM refused to admit existed for about four years.

OK, I will concede that the various forums do provide a service for some in many instances. Now, what if you clear that light and in the process destroy all the freeze frame data and wind do having a problem later in the week...the technician is going to have no ides where to start. I have experienced this too many times. CEL do not illuminate for no reason, either something went wrong or you did something wrong. The only way to know to is to extract the fault and freeze frame to data to evaluate.
Bob, how are the taxes there....the climate is the only reason I stay here.
Wait a minute, isn't Florida the state that gets flooded annually from hurricanes??? I don't think my Elco would like that very much; a big puddle pretty much stops me in my tracks.

Actually where I'm at we never have any kind slide within 50 miles and even then it is way up in the hills, I think like 10 years ago we had some fire trouble...again about 50 miles north.
Rain...what's that??? Our YTD is only like 4", we do about 12" annually. I think FL gets about 12 feet with one of those hurricanes.

And doesn't California get deluged with rain almost all winter long? What have you gotten this winter so far, over 24" of rain? Then there's the mudslides and massive fires not to mention the occasional earthquakes, etc. And the hits just keep on coming.

Still 443 and Dodge Mech,
Check this one out...
I had my Check Engine Light go on at just over 1,000 miles, took it in, Dealer said it was a bad Valve Body. (Dodge Mech, you know this error code?) Got it back, Engine Light came back on during the drive home. Took it back in, 2nd listing on the error code was a bad module in the Transmission, so they replaced that. Car worked, but I could tell that it wasn't at 100%, but that was really not enough for the Dealer to go on. (Dodge Mech, what would you do if someone brought an RT in to you and said that it was not running quite right, but there were no Check Engine Light / Error Codes to go off of?) Drove the RT for 2 to 3 weeks, then the Engine Light came back on. 3rd and last error code was to replace the wiring between the (2) previous componenets, the Valve Body and the Transmission Module. Took it back in last week, there is a bad wiring harness that is under the dash that crosses over the streering column and near the Emergency Brake Pedal. It is around there, the E-Brake, where the wiring harness is defective and the wires had burnt through the insulation. From what I know, mine is the third car to be diagnosed and repaired for this problem. Dodge Mech, please reply back.
