Hey,
I had previously written that I was impressed when I gassed the Magnum doing 80 MPH down the freeway. It downshifted, accelerated and quiet quickly reached 110 MPH when it shifted gears. Darn thing shifted so had at 110 MPH, I felt like I was going to be shoved ino the back seat. Leaped from 110 MPH to 125 MPH in the blink of an eye. This where I was wrong...
Specifications that I have read indicates the top speed of the Magnum to be 140 MPH, computer controlled to not exceed 130 MPH. Shifting into 5th gear at 110 MPH with an instant leap to 125 MPH, I believed this information to be correct. Until last weekend...
I was out early Sunday morning to get Breakfast for the family. Decided I would play around with the Auto Stick, as I wanted to try the Shifting Technique that I had read on this forum. Leave Auto Stick in 1st gear and let the computer shift at redline. To speed up my trip for Breakfast Burritos, I took the freeway (2) exits down. Once on the freeway and past traffic, something odd happened... There was no traffic on the freeway! I pushed the pedal to the asphalt and watched the Auto Stick do it's wonders. Darn thing sure does go fast. Topped out 1st Gear, 2nd Gear, then had to keep my eyes on the road. Quickly reached my off ramp, so I looked down at the Speedo. 105 MPH. Not bad. Until I noticed the Transmission Gear Display...
It was still in 3rd Gear!!! When I was on the Freeway and the car shifted at 110 MPH, I thought it was shifting from 4th to 5th Gears. Nope! Darn thing was only shifting from 3rd to 4th! With this new information, I would have to question the 140 MPH top speed of the stock Magnum RT...
Remove the govenor set by the computer, and I am confident this will peg the 160 MPH Speedo, just like the stock 1968 Charger pegged the 150 or 160 MPH Speedo and still pulled for several more minutes.
Gotta love this car!

Surpised you I bet. Me too.
I just found my Nov 04 Road and Track, they list:
1st 45 @ 5800 RPM
2nd 73 @ 5800 RPM
3rd 113 @ 5800 RPM
4th 126 @ 4600 RPM
5th 126 @ 3800 RPM
I have seen 127 @ 4800 in my AWD RT, I thought I was in 5th, but now reading your experience and looking this up, I see I was in 4th at that time.
The German version of the 300 C Touring is listed at 155 MPH, which is what most cars are governed at here, so I think 160 would not be unrealistic.
And yes, I do love it so far!!!

if thats the case then the up-to-now uncrackable governor on your Magnum has been lifted. Supposedly this can be done by a dealer (the stock contis are well past their speed rating at 140+). However every dealer I have asked has said "hell no" for liability reasons, and I have yet to see someone on any forum say "My dealer did it for me".
Maybe on your side of the pond they gave you speed-rated tires and really did lift the gov? Cuz an SXT is limited to like 108 mph, an the RT is limited to 126... you can't shift into 5th under acceleration but it does make a great highway overdrive gear. :-(
140 mph was the rating we saw before these babies actually hit the streets. To my knowledge no Magnum was ever delivered with a 140-mph limiter.
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

153mph was the actual specified top speed before they put the limiter on the car, that's the official number they had on the dodge.com website, from what i've read the european spec 300C sedan and wagon don't have the limiter and will do that speed, from what i've read we only got the lower limiter because the tires they originaly wanted to use weren't sold in the US, only in europe, and the only option here was only rate at 129mph
No, mine is US spec and governed at 127 (at least that is what the speedo shows) , just like everyone else. I am with the military here. It stops going faster at 127, regardless of the RPM. See my thread titled 127 MPH - Fun on the Autobahn.
The German 300C Touring has Pirelli P7 W rated (270 KPH) tires. Mine has 4x4 Contis rated at 130, most have the normal Contis rated at the same.
127 is plenty fast for me, I have no interest in removing the limiter.

I don't recommend removing the limiter to anyone or for that matter going that fast......(cautious man who has an accident talking)
On the other hand I would love to see this car do the 150+ mph (no limiter ) to see if it could be done on a controlled course like a long track or something just to say it was done ( wild driver who bought the RT for a reason LOL)
