Exactly what the subject line says. Right now, I am looking to get a SXT with a sunroof, and I've heard someone getting it for 24k. Whoever that might be, how do you get it that low?

Don't be afraid to tell the dealer exactly what you want to pay (a little less even), and walk out the door after you tell them to call you when they find more money.

I got my SXT with pkg 26G, no sunroof, sticker 26405, for right at 21.

You just have to find the right salesman on the right day, and be willing to wait for another car.

Never, EVER, let them know you love the car.[sm=signs003.gif]

a SXT for 21k??? Seriously? What comes in the 26g package? How did you get them that low, what was your sales technique -- was it just to tell them, call you, and walk out and tell them you would buy it today if they are willing to do it? Did that include any incentives?

The only incentive it included was the 1k rebate for financing through chrysler (which I will pay off with a lower interest rate loan as soon as I get the payment book).

My technique was pretty simple, test drive, talk price for a minute. Told them that was too high and that I was thinking more like 20k and my car (which they told me $400 for already, heh). He said "are you crazy, I'll get the invoice for you". We looked over the invoice, I told him that didn't matter to me because I knew they got more incentive that aren't shown there. He got down to 22,5 and my car. I told him to call me when he found more money and left. That was about 10am. Went test driving other cars elsewhere for the day. At about 4 he called, said they had talked to Chrysler and that Chrysler had agreed to extend the month (this was 3/1 I just got it last week), and they could get me to 20,400 and my car. I headed right back and signed up.

I think the power move of just leaving showed them that I wasn't married to that car. Of course them having 2 more sitting on the lot, and me not looking for an RT I'm sure helped out on this quite a bit.

All in all I think I got a very good deal on it. Only 250ish miles on it right now but I just love it.

The 26G package

It's not a really highly optioned car, but it does have the tilt/telescoping wheel, 8 way drivers seat, of course power windows and locks, CD player. Standard stuff.

The only things I wish it had are daytime running lights and automatic headlights which aren't even options in the US. I can add the DRL for $75, but don't have the climate sensor so I can't do the automatic headlights with the 300C headlight switch.

Anyway, the SXT is a wonderful car, plenty of power for 98% of us, and drives/rides like a dream. So I guess the moral of the story is that you "can" get 5k+ off the sticker if everything works out right.

Thats damn impressive. What other cars were you test driving while you were waiting for a call? Did you goto other dodge dealerships and did the same thing... There are like 3-4 dodge dealerships in my area.... I might just wake up early in the morning, do what you did... and head to the next one. Did you also go on a weekend or weekday?

I'm not too big on the options. I really never need a sunroof or anything like that. You seem like a really stern customer. 20,400.. boy, thats really good

This was the only new car I was looking at.

I was also interested in a 4 door pickup, either Dodge or Ford, so drove a couple of used ones.

Found a sweet 04 Concorde LXI with 18k mi. It was only 16,900. That was impressive, but I personally don't like Leather. I could have lived with that, but my wife couldn't live with the small cupholders in front.

Drove an 04 Explorer, what crap that was. Looked at some used Durangos but they had too many miles. Also, a couple of Buick Rendevous'. Those are nice, but too small. My bank was offering 5% rates for anything with less than 35k miles so mileage was pretty important to me.

Yeah, I had the opportunity to be a tough customer because I didn't have to buy a car. Just had some things come up that allowed me to.

In fact, I didn't even want a new car. I knew from the time the Magnums came out that I'd get one, but had planned on getting one off lease so I didn't have to take the huge depreciation hit myself. But this deal worked out favorably for me so I got the new one. I'm glad it did. It is nice to be the only one putting miles on it, and you gotta love the new car smell.

I didn't have the opportunity to go to multiple Dodge dealers that day (it was during the week) as we only have one in town. Nearest alternative Dodge dealer is 40mi. or so away. I was planning on hitting them the next day.

My dealer did have an STX with a sunroof sitting on the lot, I think it was only about $500 more, but I don't like sunroofs. In other cars they take away too much headroom, and on cars that I've had them in in the past, I rarely if ever actually used them. And was almost always annoyed by the sun shining through on me.

WEll, thats pretty cool that you ended up with the Mag. I am sure I can get them down 5k, even if I have to pay a 1000 more than you did. I think you case is rare... so my expectations aren't going to be THAT high. Once I come back from my Vegas trip, I am going to start wheeling and dealing

I do not think you will be able to pay off the Chrysler Credit loan as quickly and simply as you think. Also, since there was a trade-in involved, your actual cost for the Magnum is not as clear.

You're right about the trade in part. However, when going through the numbers the first time I know what they were allowing me for the trade-in. Do what they will with the numbers in between, there is a starting price, a trade-in value, and a final price. Everything in between is just fuzzy math so the bottom line + trade-in value is what I paid for the car. My trade was old, worn out, and high mileage. It wasn't worth more than they told me.

I can pay them off as soon as I get the payment book or whatever type of statement they send me with the account number. I read the contract all the way through to make sure there was no penalty for early payoff before I signed it and there is none.

The dealer though will get charged back $350 if I don't make 3 payments. Too bad for them, they should have told me the price required Chrysler financing before making me drive all the way back there. I wouldn't have since their interest rate was 3/4 higher than I had already told them I was approved for, and I told them I'd finance myself. I wouldn't mind stying with Chrysler financing, but they couldn't/wouldn't match my 5% rate.
