Question about Stock Stereo

RE: Question about Stock Stereo
You can get an amp with speaker level input and run the wires off of the rear speakers. I have heard some people say that the outboard line level converters are better. I have only used outboard units because I usually have them laying around. Also I generally setup my systems with attention to showing it and I like the way that RCA cables look to match the other amp. I have installed a system using strickly the builtin speaker inputs and used the plastic wiring loom to tidy the install up. I didnt hear any real difference beween using outboard vs the amp speaker inputs. One thing I would recoomend is to use "bass-blockers" to protect the speakers from trying to go too low. All they are is NON-polarized electrolitic capacitors. For sysytems less the 600w you can use the 50vdc caps and >600w use 100vdc caps. To use them is simple, just place them inline with the + lead of the speakerwire . Here is a small chart for values in 4 ohm systems. I have rounded off the value for an approximate cutoff (50hz is actually 795.8 micropharad).
Cut off Cap Value
50hz..............800micro farad
80.................500
100...............400
200...............800
You can go to an electronics store or a stereo shop to get them. Generally at a stereo shop they are $10 for a pair.
The link at the bottom has my webpage with the magnum on it. Click on the Alpine button for pics of the stereo.

RE: Question about Stock Stereo
Does anyone else have this problem? When listening to the Stock stereo and the volume is turned up the rear speakers fades out. At first I thought it was my imagination, than I installed an amp with subs and it became even more clear. I connected them of the speaker feed for the rear and sure enough as the volume went up the rear went down. I installed a converter for the amp to use the RCA inputs and turn the level down low and tried it, than I turned it up, same thing. This is driving me crazy. I do not want to change the head unit, I like the original look. But this stereo is starting to get me upset. Has anyone experience this?

RE: Question about Stock Stereo
I'm "not allowed" to change out the head unit in the car as my wife says the aftermarkets don't look as good. Unfortunately, she's right on that, the aftermarket just don't have quite the same finished look as the stockers.
Go take off your wife's panties and put your boxers back on, grow some ***** already! Tell your wife that the factory radio sucks and is a POS. There's a lot of after market head units that look far better then the stock crap in the Magnum, Alpine 9833 and 9835 looks really good, not to mention will walk all over the stock in sound. If my wife tried telling me what I could and could not have in my ride, she'd be living with her mother!

RE: Question about Stock Stereo
^haha. Does anyone know how the stock premium system sounds? I was in a durango with the infiniti system and I thought it sucked, I am spoiled by the 8 speaker DVD-A system in my other car, which is probably the most beautiful **** I have ever heard.
The "premium" system comes stock with the RT right?

RE: Question about Stock Stereo
I have a question for everyone....those of you with a stock head unit and amps...where are you puling your remote power on?...I am running a modest amp and sub and have installed one of those power scensing adapters for the remoe lead, but i have noticed that when you lock or unlock the doors, the speakers see a slight line voltage just enough for the amd to turn on for a sec or so ...this repeats for maybe five minutes...any ideas ?
Thanks

RE: Question about Stock Stereo
Not to butt in. But I actually tried to order my RT with NO radio...just a blank faceplate like you used to be able to do. Unfortunately, dealer said there was no blank, you HAD to order a radio. I figured OK, just turn it off...Id rather listen to the engine Then they screwed up and got the 6 cd changer radio. Their mistake so I got it for free...guess it will add to resale 20 years from now. Still turned off 90% of the time.

RE: Question about Stock Stereo
One issue with installing aftermarket HU in the new Dodge products is that there is not a ignition controlled source. What most do, including myself, is to tap off of the cigarette lighter. Now for the other quirk, if you have the smokers package(cigrette lighter always on), you have to move the fuse in the rear (#18 i think) to the ign position. The lighter fuse has 3 slots in a row. The middle slot has 1 leg of the fuse and then move the fuse to the other slot.
