Lightbulb Should I get an extended warranty

Hi there,

Is it worth to get an extended warranty? Are there common known problems with Magnum (2008, SXT, AWD) that might cost a lot of money to fix down the road? I plan to keep my magnum at least a couple of more years.

I was told there are two types. One is from Chrysler (more expensive)and the other one is for used car.

I welcome you for any thoughts and thank you!

If you are asking this question, I must assume that you bought your car used.

The extended warranty through Chrysler will be a powertrain only warranty. If you would have bought the warranty at time of purchase, you might have been able to get the electrical included as well. If you take care of your car with oil changes and regualr maintenance, then you will not really need this, unless you are driving 10k miles a month or something and feel that you may tear up your engine pretty quick.

The private warranties that are out there are kinda risky. You get to pick what is covered and what deductibles you want, but the bad thing is that they have a choice to cover the repair or not, and most of these places aren't around long because they end up going bankrupt or just close up shop down the road when they start losing their butts because they are warranting cars that are near 200k miles and 20 yrs old. THese guys are like those small insurance companies. They follow their own set of rules.

IMHO, I would not get a warranty through anyone. As long as you are maintaining your vehicle you will be good to go. The 2 worst things that can go wrong on the car that are expensive are the engine and the tranny and most of the time you can get either rebuilt for under $1000. Plus you have this wonder forum to come for help if anything goes wrong. We may not be able to do the actual work, but we can point you in the right direction.

Thank you very much for your input! I really appreciate this. Yes, I bought a used one and the factory warranty came with it. Now the warranty is almost up.
