RK Sport Hood saga continuation
Well, for those interested...you might want to reconsider future purchases from these guys. At last count I have 30 e-mails from them prior to payment and shipment of the my subsequently damaged hood (Jan-mid Apr 05) and a total of TWO since 23 April 05 (April to 8 Jul 05) ...even after requests for assistance in tracking, delivery, damage claim, etc. Time to play hardball....

RK SPORT and Mr. Wright
I requested an update on my claim which you've chosen to ignore for a week now, even after I sent it twice (once as a reminder post-holiday). Since you've elected NOT to respond I've decided to pursue this via three channels; The California Attorney General's Office, The Better Business Bureau, and lastly a family business attorney. You were mailed
a letter yesterday with receipt confirmation as a first step.

I require an update on the status of my situation/claim for the hood shipped to Germany by RK Sport via ABF freight. If you recall, the hood arrived damaged beyond repair per the local Chrysler dealer (auto body shop). Total amount paid to RK Sport for product and shipping was $1106.00.

Your e-mail Mr. Vickers was not ignored. Since you e-mailed "Customer
Support" there were 4 people working on your damage claim at the same
time which I think is hardly what you would called being ignored.
Mauricio is in control of your damage claim and will get back to you as
soon as he hears from the freight company how they want to expedite this
process.

Being one of the first (if not the very first) to buy this hood, I knew I was rolling the dice. Such is the case with new products from new companies.
It's a shame these guys are not on the up and up. I was looking forward to spending more money with em.
My hood continues to look worse every day. Almost doesn't look like it was made for a magnum now.
man, I wish I would have kept my stock hood. I'm kinda commited to getting something new now.
2 grand down the drain... or a learning experience,
I choose to call it a learning experience.
not that I won't roll the dice again.

You're rather the example I plan to use in my upcoming "resolution". The fact that you had to spend money in excess of a "reasonable amount" to get the hood into any decent condition, etc, I plan to expand on that...plus you're a fellow Missourian.
Do you think the hood presents a safety issue in any way? Have you had any material separation indicators yet?
ANYONE WITH RK SPORT HOOD ISSUES: Please drop me a line at vickerst98@yahoo.com. I do antiterrorism assessments for Uncle Sam and will be busy over the next few weeks so don't let my slow response deter you from contacting me. I can't go into details for obvious reasons but I am looking at options and am switching to a CA attorney to ease logistics. I'll definitely keep all posted.

It's unsafe as far as how the hood latch is meant to be attached. It's threaded through fiberglass which is pretty insane. That, of course, won't last and it'll most likely be at highway speeds or on the drag strip when (not if) it lets go. I'll remove it and find a way to get bolts in there somehow at some point. I really can't keep the hood though. It looks worse everyday. Very poor craftsmanship went into it. It'd be a joke but there is nothing funny about it. We'll call it a bad joke on me and a bladent ripoff to you.
Here's the deal. Life's mistakes are mended all in the recovery. Meaning, if I were to contact RK or you were and they responded with "I am so sorry, how can we fix this?", would this be ok? You bet it would. Factories don't typicly make things like this. People do and perfection often comes after trial and error. A: it was wrong for them to have cistomers pay to beta test their product. but B: and much bigger, their respose just sucks. They show no care at all for their customers and ever seemingly take delight in baggin' people. This is what's wrong in the whole thing. Their business skills are what either put em out of business or what will.
I can honestly say I have NEVER had an unhappy client. This in no way shape or form means I don't make mistakes. I'm a one man band and when I make a mistake it's quite obvious and needs fixing instantly. I simply do that. I take responsibility for it and make it right. Sometimes that's as easy as pushing a button, but in one case, when I had equipment failure in the middle of a five-figure project, I had to not only work 36 hours straight to get the project out the door on time, I had to eat those hours as they were just not billable. It's not like I would make a customer pay for my misfortune or neglegence and that's what RK seems to be fine with.
shame on em, man.

hey grin,
do you think your hood has finally stopped shrinking? if so, can it be block sanded and repainted to save it?
i still have mine sitting in the garage waiting for it to finish curing. i don't want to re-do it later.

Is it all worth the work? You've been curing your hood for months that should have been ready for paint and installation when you purchased it. I would love to have an aftermarket hood for my Mag but you guys have been through hell with this RK hood. Before anyone else waists their money on this hood RK Sport should have to discontinue selling this product. With all of the issues you guys have had with them I would say I would never purchase any product from them...period.
StatueMan, good luck in getting this all resolved. Grin, sorry you waisted so much time and money in a product you can no longer use. I've never been a fan of fiberglass hoods. Maybe someone will make an aftermarket steel hood.

65, I don't think it's done gettin ugly. It's warped, fiberglass mesh is showin and the fit continues to get worse.
I just can't see spending anymore time or money on this hood. Kinda like trying to make a delco sound system sound good ya know?
got any pics of the side of your car now that it's lowered. You just keep teasing us with the nose.
...which is look sweeeet.

Just got back from my fishing trip in Canada and shoud be picking up my Magnum SRT8 in the next couple of days. Man, I really hate to hear about these problems with the hood. And what really kills me is that no one from RK SPORT HOODS has posted any "official responses" to defend themselves. They sure seemed to make a lot of posts before all of this "bad press" that they are getting. Is it just me?
What's going on with the "Magnum Force" hood? Have you seen anything on the finished product and/or availability?
I'm leaning towards just keping my SRT8 stock now. My 39 year old son, from my "first opinion marriage", suggested that (and you all know I mean no dis-respect to RT ownersl) I may not want to make my new SRT8 "look just like all the older RT's with a bunch of aftermarket stuff!
We'll see!

Hello all,
It's been a while since I checked in with this forum. I'm really sorry to hear about all the heartaches you're having with the RK Sport hood. I've had problems with fiberglass stuff in the past, and there are some really crappy products out there, but also some that have much better quality.
The update on the Magnum Force hood is, I expect to hear something this week about the finished product, with a slight chance I may even be going to LA to test fit the first prototype. If all goes well, I will post the news here and on the other LX- forums.
I will do my best to see that the finished product meets the standards you all should expect from a quality manufacturer. I'm very picky and, of course am putting my name on this, so rest assured I won't be selling a piece of junk.
For starters, the hood will have steel reinforcements at the hinge and latch locations. Also, the outer skin is made from carbon fiber, not fiberglass, so there should be less chance of warpage or shrinking.
Before you all make another decision on a hood, give me a week and check back here. Hopefully I'll have some good news.
Take care.
