Question Where is the catalytic converter?

My 05 Dodge Magnum SE has been acting up and today the check engine light finally came on along with the ETC light (Electronic Throttle Control). I hear that the catalytic converter may also be bad. If this is the case, I have looked up the part and was wondering if I would need just the converter itself (which is a lot less $ than the part and all the "exhaust pipping"). Also, if I do replace the catalytic converter, where is it located on the vehicle? Is this something that can be easily changed by a personal friend (whom is a mechanic)? Do you think the dealership would charge an arm and a leg for this? I know the throttle body is fairly cheap and it would be easy to change this part. Any ideas?

The catalytic converter is under your car on both the driver and passenger side, you would probably just need the converter it self not the whole assembly with the pipping, what state are you in? if you are not in california you can go to autozone and get one for about 100.00, I had one replaced in my wife's magnum, as long as your friend knows how to weld he sould be able to change it and if not than you can go to one of those "muffler shops and they can replace it for you under 100.00, also I just replied to your e-mail

Just a side note, because of a federally mandated extended warranty on emission related items (like your catalytic converter) check with a dealer before replacing it yourself. It may be covered. Good luck.

Extended Federal Emissions warranty is 8 years/80,000 miles. This also goes for the PCM.
