SRT8 Magnum finnally arrived
Our first SRT8 was delivered to our dealer yesterday. After we prepped it we HAD to road test it. I have to say I was a little disapointed. I'm driving a 5.7 RT right now, and I like the low end punch of the 5.7 better. Granted, the car had only 14 miles on it, but it just wasn't that much more of a thrill as the 5.7. Ride and hadling trade off is actually better that the run of the mill RT package, and the seats are really supportive and comfy. I also noticed the exhaust is not much louder than the 5.7, it's the induction/intake sound that really sets it apart. Nice package, just seems a little too peaky for my tastes. If your gonna open it up, you'd better have a clear stretch of road. It doesn't hit the power band till at least 4000rpm. We were only able to do some 0-60 runs due to heavy traffic.
It looks and sound slike a nice car, but I couldn't justify the incredible difference in price. It seems to me that if I want to, I can upgrade my 06 R/T to the same specs or greater for less than the price difference between the two cars.
It is nice though to have a limited production vehicle. That was one of the main reasons I loved my Typhoon... you just never saw them, and it turned heads. The SRT/8 will surely do the same thing.

i have not driven a magnum SRT8 yet, but i have driven a 300C SRT8, and while i have driven alot of powerful and exotic cars in my days as a tech and as a valet, the SRT8 300C WOWWED me...
I agree, if your not used to the regular 5.7 it will knock your socks off....BUT, I think you could save ten grand and wait for a nice supercharger set-up for the 5.7 and probably be in the same ballpark. I will stick to this comment, the 5.7 has better punch down in low RPM's.
hmm..the disadvantage of the supercharger idea, for one, you wont have the body (which i prefer) of the SRT8. also, for that extra 10 grand, you dont have to do a ton of warranty voiding work. I would rather have a 425hp car than take a 345hp car and do a bunch of expensive work to it, to get to the same place and void my warranty.
thats why instead of putting a ton of cash into my RT, ill drive it until its paid off, at which point i wil be the proud owner of a GTO, or an Evo.
I am really pleased with the look of the SRT8 magnum and 300c though..have you driven the 300c srt8 ripsi?

No, I only had the opportunity to drive the Magnum variant. It only had a few miles on it so it really wasn't the shotgun the press pumped it up to be. We all know how these things need a few thousand on the clock to really "run".
I loved the interior and the ride/handling set up. The steering feels better on center too. The exterior looks killer. Love those huge Brembos poking thru the
20's.

i only got to drive the 300c SRT8 on an autoX course, with a starting 1/8 mile, to a hrd left, then through the course, but the way it felt, i fell in love...and the looks both inside and out are great too..
Hey Badstrat....I was thinking last night (that can get me into trouble...thinking). Like I said, the exclusivity of having the real deal is cool,, but me personally would take a regular RT and make a sleeper. Again, I work at a dealer, so If I blow it up, I just beg the rep and she will give in......maby a little wine and dine too!! LOL ( My service rep is HOT!)
