thinking about a magnum sxt, advice?
hey guys,
i am new around here. i am really considering getting a used magnum sxt model.
i am wondering if there is any advice/helpful hints or anything at all that you guys can provide me with.
i currently drive a '03 mazda protege5 and am now feeling the need to upgrade to a larger vehicle.
i love tuning and was also wondering what the aftermarket scene is like for the 3.5l? 22's anyone? heh!
thanks for any/all help!

Well the 3.5L "tuning" is limited to chip(which results are soso), CAI, usual cat back exhaust and springs. The 5.7L seems to be the hot rodding one of the bunch, of which what it is designed as. The 5.7L has the same plus headers and soon to be announced programmer I do believe. The compression of the 3.5L is too high for a supercharger. NOS is always an option. There is an thread goin on it. IMO, if I was looking for a Magnum to hot rod, go with the R/T. The prices probably come down once the SRT-8's start hitting the market.
I have to agree. I have the SXT model and if I had to do it all over again, I would go with the RT. I'm having problem after problem with my SXT/Magnum in general. May be lemon, we'll find out next week.
Got SXT In August, Have 18,000 on it. Only problem is with third brake light plastic seal. Has come out twice. No other problems. A lot depends on how you want to use the car. Mine is daily driver work car. Get good mileage for heavy car and seems to have a lot less problems than the RT's.
Do I need the RT for my use absolutaly not, when I want to go fast get the Porsche out of the garage.

I have the SXT and don't regret my decision at all. I am not into tuning or modding, so I am cruising in essentially a box stock SXT and love it. I get just as many onlookers as the RT and it will cruise all day at 80 with power to spare. It may take me a couple seconds more to get to 80, but I don't need to visit the gas pump as often either.
If you are into neck snapping quick acceleration, replacing tires more often and giving the fat cat oil companies more money, I highly recommend the RT.

Drive them both, then make up your own mind. Don't bow to pressure from one side or the other.

I agree with the above... drive them both, there probably won't be a comparison after that.
Even if you're not after ***** out speed it makes it easier when EVERYONE who sees it asks "Does it have a Hemi??" Why bother to explain why it doesn't... get the R/T

Oh yeah, as for stereo. If you are not into sound, then the stock or een the BA "premium" system will do. But if you are going to take it to a higher level, like me. Get the base stereo and have fun upgrading.
