Kenwood DDX-7017 DVD indash Finally FINISHED!
Well I did it, took the Video plunge. I was going to keep it all Alpine, but then I realized why put out the extra $300 for a fliptop head unit, that I really dont want. The Kenwood does it all, more than I will even need. ALOT of work in this install. Had to trim the Bezel, trim the white plastic thing that holds the radio(trimmed off the top humps and cut down the bottom ones in half). Took me about 4 hours to install. Tried a plan that didnt work. The original problem was that the display pushes out from the bottom so you can insert the DVD/CD, and it was too tight of a fit on the first trim cuts. So I came up with the idea of using the radio bezel, so I cut out the part that seperates the radio hole and the a/c controls. When I put on the radio bezel, it looked wayyyyyyyyy weird. Sooo now I have a bezel that is reconstruction phase. The pics are lousy, I know, but it is 8:30 and dark.
I am trying to decide to reconstruct the old bezel. I can also fill in the half moons with pvc plastic then fill and paint it silver. What I need is someone with the NAV option get the measurements of the opening for me. I really dont have time this week to run to the dealer with the Kenwood bezel and see if it is a close fit. If it is, I will just order one of the new silver bezels.
Ok here are the lousy pics. The hard one to see on the left is the way it sits. The one on the right is a touched-up photo of what it will look like.

Hey man. Looks good. If you are looking for the Nav besel dimensions let me say they are big. They are bigger than double din. Take a look at my pics back on our posts and see the border that had to be put around mine. I want to say it is soemthing like 7.5 x 4.5 inches. bigger than double slot.

Here is the trimming that I did on the radio back support. The wire tape job is a temp connection to macke sure everything was wired up right.

Here is the homemade bracket for the radio. Sheetmetal+concrete block+hammer=bracket hahah. I will be having someone with a metal brake bend me a proper one up. What stinks is that there are no doubledin mounting kits out there. I was told by a shop that called the adapter kit manufactuer direct that a 2Xdin will not fit. hahaha

Final pic until I find the metra adapter that I have somewhere in the mess of an apartment. I will be taking the half-moons off of it and finishing it up. Just going to leave it at that. This install have drained me. This is why I dont do this professionally anymore!!!

lookin good man, having a two car garage makes life so much better, and nice bracket, i have found that a good door makes a decent brake, especially when working with aluminum
