Default Upgrading to 18" for SE

Hello everyone. I just got a 2005 SE. I want to upgrade to 18" wheels and tires for it. I was wondering if anyone has upgraded 18's??? I see a lot of 20's around here. My question is on tires. I did some searching and I see some of you guys with the RT's are upgrading your stock tires and the 255/55-18 fits ok. I just wanted to make sure as when I upgrade to 18's I am going to go with the 255/55-18 as there are tons more options in that tire size. Also I want to confirm that I need a 5x115 wheel for our cars?? Sorry if this is elementary stuff, I just got my Magnum and want to make sure I get the right thing. Thanks.

Hey Josh... I am a wheel and tire newbie as well, but maybe I can help a little.

First off I can confirm that we need the 5x115 bolt pattern. I have seen others using 5x114.3 but they come back a month later and report a mysterious vibration... put 2 and 2 together on that one I think. 5x115 is the correct size. Also be aware that the offset (at least on the RT, not positive about the SE) is 18mm for RWD but I have heard that 15-25mm has been working for everyone. I think the widest rim you can get on the front is an 8.5 but maybe someone will be able to help me out there too.

I know, pretty vauge, but at least you have more info to look around with. Now if you find something tight in a 20", let me know.

Tires I am not too sure about, I plan to buy wheels and then get some professional help picking tires probably.

That gives me a little more information. I will probably end up getting pro help with everything but I wanted to have some knowledge going into it. There are so many wheels and tires out there I want to have an idea of what I want also before I go in. As for tires I have done some more searching and for me with an 18" it looks like the 255/55-18 I want will work perfect. I look at www.bigcustomwheels.com and they use the 255/55-18 tire with the 18" tire packages for our cars. They guarantee fitment also so that tire must fit just fine. As of right now I think I am going to go with the American Racing Casino wheels in chrome as long as they have the correct offset. Thanks again.

Anyone else???

Yes those are the tires I want and the size that I want. I am not going to go with the OEM 18" wheels though. I am going to upgrade to something else. I have a black SE so I might get a nice set of black wheels. Any rubbing problems with those larger tires???

Dude...like you mentioned on your other thread...go with 20's, they look way better!! And, rubbing won't be an issue unless your tire width is huge, cause otherwise you are keeping the diameter relatively the same. Cheers.

No issues, I believe 20" is fine, just be careful of the width. I would suggest not going wider than 8.5" on the fronts, as it could rub on upper A arm.

I am still undecided. I like the 18's because they have more tire on the wheel. I live in a small town and the roads suck. There are also tons of railroad tracks and I don't want to have issues with them. I have found some nice 18's.
