Thumbs up Magnum enthusiast...........

...........is thinking about stepping up to the buying plate. My Gran marquis still runs great at 275k milage (good ride, 22 mpg, hardly any repairs), but while looking for a car for my daughter, I saw white Magnum for sale and it fired up my juices.
I have loved the Magnum look since day one. No car has ever been sculpted (OK, a few) that pleases the eye so consistently as the truckulent looking Magnum.
Here's my questions to you Magnum owners:
1. I rented a Magnum once and the ride was awful. Rental fleet for sure and I am confident that the best model (SRT?) would be altogehter different, but I would just like to hear someone say it is a great, comfy ride.
2. I am fearful of the hemi's thirst, so I am thinking the big 6. Does the big 6 come in the top model? It's my understanding the hemi likes higher grade gas?
3. Are there years to avoid, years to look for?
4. I have always put duals on my cars. Has anyone put duals on the bigger 6 cylinder or seen one with them?
5. I am thinking of painting mine darker almost plum candy apple red with a touch of white pin stripping.
Thanks so much for your thoughts. I admire you Magnum owners, it is a killer design and it always turns my head.

I can't speak for any 6 cylinders as I've never owned one, but I can say that I consistently get 20 - 22 MPG with my 2006. That is a bout a 60 - 40 split between two lane roads, and highway driving, and also factors in that I can't resist the Hemi power, and while I'm not crazy with it, I'm not exactly conservative either.

I love the car and love the ride (although I came from a Dodge 3500 Dually as my previous vehicle).

If I burn through an entire tank on the highway allowing the MDS to kick in more often, I will even get 23MPG.

For what that is worth.

I have the small 6 and get about 22mpg on supreme gas (I always run my cars on supreme it gives the best power and burn more efficiently). The ride is awsome altough you'll have to check the front suspension and direction to be tight so there will be a quiet ride. As for the exhaust system it'll be easy to install a true dual exhaust system because the y pipe is installed after the quad cat's right under the transmission tailshaft. In fact I love my magnum but I just gave her to my wife and she'll enjoy her for a very long time since we drive her only in summer time here in montreal

Running "supreme" fuel, or higher octane fuel will not have any effect on performance, economy, and actually running a higher octane than needed will burn less efficiently.

Thoughts of power or economy gains are most likely just that, and better running vehicles on higher octane fuel is most likely just perception as a way to justify the additional cost of the fuel.

Octane is not an indication of the amount of energy in fuel, all that additional octane does is slow the rate at which the fuel is compressed. The higher the octane number, the more compression the fuel can withstand before detonating.

High performance engines with higher compression ratios require higher octane fuel which withstands the higher compression. If you run a lower octane, you will "over compress" the fuel, which will lead to detonation as the spark plug will fire with out enough fuel in the cylinder, causing piston/cylinder failure.

So, if you run a higher octane in an engine with a compression ratio lower than required for that higher octane, there is actually unburned fuel in the cylinder after the compression and power stroke, which is pushed out the exhaust on the exhaust stroke. Efficiency goes down, power output stays the same.

I've had my 2005 RT for 6+ years and it's sitting at a little over 180,000 kms. I think the ride is nice, I have a set of SRT springs & stabilizer bars which is a little lower than RT stock height. It handles the corners like a dream and the ride never gets too much to handle on long trips.
