HIT AND RUN Please READ
OK, so some A hole side swiped me today while i was on the highway. i was doing like 50 and he came up my right side at around 90 and the cut in front of me. but as he cut over he hit my front quarter panel hard enough to knock me almost sideways. the damage was only to the front quarter panel. bumper was fine and there is no damage to the tires or engine compartment. how much would this cost to "replace" versus "banging it out". I will post pics later today when i get them.
Yeah we are ok. could have spun out if he hit us a little differently. i wasn't in the left fast lane. it was a four lane highway. i was in the second lane from the right waiting to get off my exit coming up in that lane.
It wasn't the fender. It was the quarter piece over the wheel. Sorry i have not gotten pics up but my camera is fighting me. I took it today to get an estimate and was 630 dollars. the piece was 130 dollars then labor plus paint. so about the same.
Well, getting hit doing 50 by someone doing 90 and getting a bill for 630 bucks??? I hit a mangy dog in AZ at 45 MPH in my Volvo wagen and it cost me 2 grand....and that was quite a few years ago.
What do you mean by quarter piece over the wheel? Are you referring to your front right fender being damaged? Conventionally speaking, the rears are quarter panels and the fronts are fenders. If so, go with a new part. Its a new car and I would rather have the sheet metal replaced with an OEM fender than a bondo job.

yeah i meant that. I thought he said bumper and I thought I wrote bumper. I am an idiot. yeah the guy was going fast. it wasnt' a head on direct hit. so our actual closing speed on each other problably was only like 10-20 depending on how fast he cut over on me.
I own my own body shop. 1st to clarify for you....if its over the front wheels its a fender, if its over the rear wheels its a quarter panel. If its the fender, buy a new one and its fairly easy and fast to replace it. There are only about a dozen bolts holding it on including to the front facia. If you have access to a paint gun, get a pint of basecoat and a quart of clear. Shoot it off the car and install it the next day being careful not to scratch it on something. I have had excellent luck matching Magnums. Ive done several Midnite Blue and some Inferno Red and black is a piece of cake. Prob do the whole job yourself in a half a day and a few hundred dollars. Rear qtr panel is a lot bigger job, its not removeable except by sawzall or torch, so you fix them unless damage is extensive. That means hammer, puller, bondo. Make sure if you paint it yourself, that anything you dont want overspray on has to be moved or covered. You prob can find someone at a shop who will paint it for you if you dont want to try it......its easier than you think. Sand the part with #400 for them though, to be sure it gets sanded. That will take you all of about 20 mins. Ill paint a part like that for someone for $50 or so if they supply paint and sand it for me. Take me about 1/2 hour.
Too bad you didnt get a description and license number. They could go to jail here. Cops dont take hit and run too lightly.
