And so it begins... Bought a '06 Magnum 3.5l V6 SXT RWD last Thursday. 137k kilometres on the clock, everything looked good, 22" rims aren't really my style, but... Check engine light appears on the test drive, the salesman has an OBD2 reader which gives me the above code which he then clears. The car came with a 1 year warranty, but...
I've since had to use an OBD scanner twice to lose the check engine light in the last 48hrs, which is inconvenient, but A) I don't have a garage to play in, and B) Its a ton o' work I wouldn't fancy doing anyway.
Bit of further background: in the Carfax Canada it tells me the EGR system was checked and the EGR valve replaced in March of 2018 when the vehicle had 103k kilometres on the dial. First thing I did when I got it was fill the tank with regular 87. One of the previous 9, yup 9, owners had a cold air intake added.
I throw myself at the mercy of your diagnosis - on the vehicle that is. Never driven a Magnum before, but always thought I should. The car sure was a change from my 3" lowered all around S10 (owned a year and enjoyed most of it) but running smooth as silk whilst seemingly floating on air isn't necessarily a bad thing, right?

When I replaced my EGR, I got the same thing even after I replaced it. I found that there was an air leak from the EGR pipe going into the intake. there is a rubber seal that was not seated correctly when I put it back in. Check that. then second, check to make sure that the vac lines are good, not cut and leaking, and connected correctly. third, make sure it is screwed in completely and that there is a gasket where it connects, they may have forgotten to put that on.
those are the only things I can think of besides a bad EGR.
hope this helps

cheers mate, appreciate the reply. i've written to the folks providing the warranty in the hope that it's fixable under their terms, so fingers crossed on that one !
i don't have a garage and would not fancy tackling a job of this nature in the driveway...
