Default Replacing ground strap!

Hi I’d really like to replace my ground strap but my friend took off the original one and I can’t seem to find anything anywhere online about it. This ground strap was located near the battery he took it off when he was under my car if that helps… also when replacing it should my car be shut off? Thanks much in advance

Ask your friend to give it back?

They sell them at auto parts stores, just get the right length and yes, the engine should be off.

I mean where would it be located on the car. He took it off bc it was fried and told me to buy a new one- which I have- I just have no idea where it goes

Ask your friend to show you where he took it from.

Where did it need to go???
Why did it need to be replaced? What were the symptoms of it being “fried” as your friend put it…?
What does the ground strap look like?
I think this may be the culprit of my grounding issue… lights shut off, gauges go ape****, cabin bell chimes, air conditioner shuts off, radio shuts off, all at the same time. This happens at random and sometimes several times in a row. Nothing seems to be any one reason why or when it does it but someone told me I have a grounding problem. I just don’t even know where to start with this one.

I've seen poor grounding cause shift cables to melt when the starter grounds out through them. You want the main negative cable to go to the engine from the battery. You also want a small one to go from the body to the battery. That's that little wire on the negative cable. There will also be one or two small ground wires going from the engine to the firewall. On police cars, I've also seen ground wires going to the body from the trunk lid and hood. This cuts down noise for radios. You probably don't need that much grounding.
