Magnum R/T Gas Mileage
The SXT with the 3.5L is not gutless, the 2.7L is for sure, the 3.5Lit moves just fine for most people. It has 250 HP afterall, not a rocket, but not a slouch either. I have the 2WD version with the same options as an RT, just was $5K less. I get 19-20 around town, 25-28 on the highway. The RT Hemi will seduce you though so beware. I think you can't lose either way, high style, solid, fantastic car. 1 year old, $15K miles, zero problems....
I have 4000 miles on my R/T AWD. I drive 36 miles to work, with half of that highway and the other have a two lane 55mph road. I average right around 20mpg and that's driving it easy. Throw in a few WOT conditions and that number will drop.
I drive 55 miles each way to work daily and get about 20-21 mpg on the highway. This is with mostly highway traffic doing 70-75 and occasional stop and go. I just finished a long trip from R.I. to N.C. and back and the car did even better, doing 22-23 mpg at speeds around 75. At this point I have a little more than 5,000 miles, so I presume it's broken in now.
I have just over 33,000 miles on my '05 RT. I get around 20 to 21. My drive is 45 miles one way all freeway Highway 80 in Northern California. Speed varies from 0 to 80+ Still love her. I think I'll do the interior this weekend. weather is going to suck. [sm=americanasmiley.gif]
My R/T averaged 16-18mpg in the city, and 20-24mpg on the highway depending on how often I "hit it" or not.
My SRT-8 averages only 11-13mpg in the city but much to my surprise on a recent road trip I was getting 18-20mpg on the highway! Not bad for a 425hp 6.1 without the benefit of MDS.
Don't consider the V6 versions as far as mileage goes because the MDS system in the R/T will put you about even on that end. The V6's do not have MDS. If you like the V6's then by all means go for it, but don't do it based on the assumption that the mileage is that much better.
Use high octane fuel and you'll get better mileage as well.
On another note: If you go up to the SRT, you'll be in a car that closely rivals your Mustang in performance bone stock out of the box.

I get 16-17 on my 28mi round trip to work, It is mostly start and stop back roads.
I took it on the hwy the other day and got 22.5 comming back. I only have 3k on it, so it is bound to go up.

[:-]I have 5,000 miles on my 2006 5.7 Hemi Magnum. I do alot of freeway driving. In the city I'm getting 19.5 mpg and on the highway I get around 23.4mpg. I have a K&N intake and a the "Tornado". I increased my highway miles by 2 mpg installling the "Tornado".
I average around 20-21mpg on my RWD RT, I get around 14ish city (lead foot [sm=gears.gif][sm=smiley2.gif]) but on the highway I just get up to speed and set the cruise control and get around 26mpg.
14 MPG all day long on Southern California Highways (which are slower than a normal street) and on the City Streets. 28 MPG out of town... This thing gets great gas milage for the fun you can have in it. I would say my Minivan only got 2 to 4 MPG better than my Magnum...
Did I mention how fun this car is, and once you get it you will forget about the extra dough for the gas, because you would gladly pay more for this kind of fun...
Did I mention that this is also the best looking car on the market? Priceless...
