Default 23K and The Hemi is in For Surgery

Fired her up to go for lunch and one of the lifters decided it did not want to be silent. I was on My way to dealership anyway, to pick up some accessories and the lifter did not want to shut up. Low RPM's very loud ticking higher RPM still noticeable from inside...would be quiet and then not...So I left her at the shop. We'll see what the outcome is. I just want her put back together properly with no other issues; but we all know what happens when things get taken apart. But she is definitley going in for a tear down, at least the upper half.

Please Pray for her...[sm=boohoo.gif]

man its been that long already...I was following the thread on your doors. Nice car...can't push them...what's going on??

I'v only been without her for one day...but visited her this morning..they still have not made a formal diagnoses. We'll see. I'm the type of person that just hates to see a motor dug into before its time...I hate this feeling.

I know it is painful. Been there. You are doing the right thing though in checking up on it from time to time until completion. My experience is that even half *** mechanics will take better care when they notice that you treat your vehicles as more than just transportation. Ask questions, without being obnoxius, and make sure you make nice, nice with the Service Manager, they catch hell all the time, so just casual conversation goes a long way. Saved me some bucks down the road too.

well at least it happend at low rpms, just imagine if you had a lifter fail at 5000 rpm while you were zooming around some bendy roads.....that would have destroyed the whole motor

trust me I have had valve train fail at 10000 rpm it is not a good feelin, not to mention that its still on DCX's tab right?

theres always a bright side

keep smiling your baby will be home soon

All true I am staying positive on this....so in the mean time DC paid for a rental and guess what they had waiting in the parking lot (coincidence of course..all on the timing)...can you Say hemi ...see attached
had 895 miles when I picked up. Definitely feels lots lighter than Magnum...not as much steering resistance, the tiptronics works differently....have to run through all gears to get back to drive or a N to D shift will get her back...and they used composite valve covers as compare to aluminum on my car. Already had encounters with C5 vette and 911 turbo...this charger is as impressive as Magnum.

Hoping for a speedy recovery...

I was just wondering, how bad does ANY engine noise have to get before a dealer will consider a repair necessary?
As owners, I think our hearing is far better then the service dept manager's.
If noise was just bearly noticable(with no performance problems) would you have had a case with your dealer?
I hear of horror stories where the dealer says that "Some level of mechanical noise is normal and is to be expected". Then follow it up with "I don't hear anything abnormal" and "Be sure to bring it back if it gets worse".

Thanks!

You're right ...as owners we do hear better because we notice changes, even the slightest. So here's the run down. I always go out to warm her up at least 10 to 15 minutes. 4 weeks prior to this I could always here a ticking after she's warm..nothing alarming but it was there. Maybe a bad injector??...no I knew that was not the case. I have a full roller 5.0 Mustang, so yes there is the slightest noise from the valve train, but that would be the whole valve train, not like this. The Mag did not sound right, so in she goes for an oil change and I tell them that there is a loud tick....of course they can not hear it and I got that answer..."we hear nothing". So I just took car back and just dealt with it. Unfortunatley you know what happened from the first post.

I forgot to mention, that the first indication something was wrong...before I heard the ticking in the morning...One night, I got off the highway, pulled into a TacoHell Dive-thru and the motor was ticking like a bastard (only one valve)....got my order, drive normal and it goes away. OK so at this point I am thinking Injector acting funny. You could not hear the ticking while driving because of all the other noises and of course because the car is so quite inside. The oil in the car only had 1500 miles on it and the case was full. From that point on I would hear the ticking in the morning. So boys....first sign of any ticking...bring her in ... you have to get it documented that you feel there is a problem...try this next time you get off of a highway....lower your windows and listen...put the car parallel to something that will bounce the noise back to your ear, even a guard rail and you will hear the tick if it is there....because you know that 98% of the time the mechanics can not replicate your issue.

In the mean time this Hemi Charger is very nice!! Thanks for the concerns!!
