At a slower speed like city driving, does it get enough air from the scoop? I guess my setup will just let in cool air, but not forced. How much air can the hood push in it's design? The air must be pushed through the filter. I also have a Tornado in my intake tube. I found that helped too.

Can you call your hood functional if you block off the intake of air?

No I'm not saying I'm closing off the air all the time. I'm concerned with the issue of rain, and down here in Florida we get heavy pull off the road rain. You can't tell me the raind would not get into the filter and intake on a heavy rain. As I said my hood will just add more cool air. A true ram air would have a straight shot into the intake. Looking under the RK hood the air is shoting to the right. It's not a straight shot. I could be wrong, I'm no mechanic.

65standard What the heck do you need ram air for anyway? Damn, you got a 400+ 6.1 Hemi!

I copied this from an article on Ram-Air. This is why I question if the vipor hood actually boosts air pressure enough to feel in driving.
I found this article at E-Racing Motorsports!

8. Don't Most cars have ram air already?

Answer: No, most manufactures have done everything to make inlet ducts to get air into the engine. The problem is that because of the path the air has to take, by the time it gets to your throttle body, the air doesn't have enough pressure and speed to add any ram pressure to your intake system. Even at speeds of 80 mph, no ram effects can be measured with an almost perfect inlet system (i.e. less than .08psi). At 160 mph , that pressure goes up to .36psi., that's it!! Horsepower robbing vacuum in most air boxes is present due all sorts of restrictions as we cant have dragster style hood scoops on street cars because we would not be able to see over them!

9. What is the difference in drawing engine heated air versus cool outside air?

Answer: Every 40 degrees makes a difference of 6% HP. The pressure would have to rise 1PSI for this gain in HP. Conversely, the air pressure could drop 1PSI at altitude and the losses would be similar.

I Finally got my Dubair system after 3 weeks of bulls#@t from BBT. I have'nt closed off the bottom port (for now) and over all I'm happy with the final results.
According to the onboard computer calculation of MPG I am getting an increase of about 2 to 2.5 mpg (it peaked at 19.5). This is based on my commute to and from work which is about 100 miles round trip with an average speed of about 70 mph. As far as power increase, it seems faster but it's probably just my imagination. I love the throatier sound it makes when you step on it. At lower rpm's it pretty much sounds the same as before.

Installation was pretty much a breeze. The hardest part was trying to get the air sensor out and into the rubber gromets with out damaging it.

And a question for 65standard. You said your box was 5 sided. Did you close off the lower section of the factory box or did you completely remove it the entire thing?

Hey Magmania it looks good. I am going with the cold air theory. After reading the article from E-Racing I think you can get a greater horse power gain with cool air. I just feel with our hood scoop design the air is being slowed down because it turns to the right to get to the air box. Anyway I went K&N filter, I guess one is as good as the other. I also read about the "Tornado" that you put inside your intake tube. You can look it up at Tornado Air .Com. I seen an increse of gas mileage by two miles a gallon in the city and about three miles per gallon highway. I have a three sided air box. I glued a thick 1/8" Foam rubber to the inside of the box using heat resistant glue. I felt that it would help keep the heat out of the filter box I also closed the bottom of the box except the hole in the bottom. I also made the top of the box, a rubber seal around the top of the box going around all four sides. I have felt a huge difference in power. Not only have I increased my cool air but with the "Tornado" it creates a swirling effect mixing the fuel and air mixture as it enters the intake manifold. Did the seal on top of your box come with the kit? The K&N kit did not, so I made one to seal the opening in the hood and cover the intake box. I'm pretty confident I'm getting cooler air.
