Have you guys ever had any issues or concerns about rain water coming in through your hood scoops?

Mine has. I dyed my air filter purple and when cleaning it I saw this in my intake:

I would have missed it had it not been all blue from the dye.

Thanks for your input Grinner. You took away some of the reassurance i got from 65standard however, both of your vehicles seem to be doing fine so that's good enough for me.

Thanks again to both of you.

i am not getting any water in my airbox. grinner's ink stains could be from heat and humidity and not necessarily water. i don't recommend dyeing the air filter as it might restrict air flow

Hey guys, You are bring up some good concerns. I have been reading your postings about water possibly getting into the intake tube.
I should be getting my car back by the end of the week, you may recall me asking for help with my new hood installation. I have thought about the rain issue, so I am going to make a foam rubber sheild to place over the hood opening to block the rain. Being a thick foam rubber and very dense I don't believe it would come loose without an attached pull strap. I plan to have the hood fuctional and hopefully get more cool air. I have another question, 65standard, Magmania, your grilles are fantastic. I am guessing from reading some of your threads that 65standard may have fabricated them himself. I have looked every where on the internet and I have not found the pushed out grill. They look awsome! All I find are the flat grills. Is it hard to make the grill?

there is no way i can block the scoop opening because i have a true ram-air setup. that is my only source of incomming air. my motor would suffocate and die.

yes, i made my own grille and a few grilles for others.

Are you using the factory style intake box or an after market box. I have a K&N intake. When I put it in I removed the stock box.
At the bottom of the box was a vent hole that fed the air to the stock intake. I closed the bottom of my K&N box but left the hole, which is in the fender well or something. It's metal! I also removed the plastic shield between the nose and the radiator support. The shield blocked cool air. I still had my stock hood and I noticed a difference with the cool air. I figured by adding the new hood and being functional I will be recieving fresh air from three directions. I could take a picture of my box when I get my car back. If I had to close my opening in the scoop it would be the same as the stock hood, but getting air from the front and bottom. What do you think?

i have a custom airbox. it is a 5 sided box only open on the top and sealed tight to the hood. at high speeds, like 70 MPH or better, the outside air is forced in and can even pressurize the airbox. this isn't just a fresh air system, it is a forced or ram-air setup.
