Default Help Help major failure

Just got back from my road trip and i must say the car ran fine most of the time. I ran into one issue that is a little scary. The first was i was running along at 90+ and had tp get on the brakes. major shudder and then it went away. Then on the way home about 100 miles out the lights started to flicker. then at about 50 miles out the nav and the esp light along with the abs light all came on and then the nav and radio when blank and would not come back on at all. We made it home i then cut the car off and it died no INt lights nothing. I then jumped the car and every thing came back but the dash was still flickering along with all lights out side you could see it in the tail light and the head lights. Help thanks PS; I have replaced the battery once already.

I have never heard of this problem, I say get to the dealer asap, even if you have to call the roadside ***. and get them to tow it in. When it is electrical, I dont trust anything, I would hate to die in the middle of nowhere!

Check the ground connection in the rear cargo compartment. Those seem to come loose. Happened to me once and I had similar flickerings.

I checked out the battery connectors and fuses and all looked good. I put a jumper on the car to get the windows closed and it did not want to take a small charge. I will be putting in a Interstate. I had it towed to the dealer. they are trying to say that the sub is drawing on the battery. This issue started before i put the sub in and its a dodge OEM plug and play parts. being that a ran out of the Factory Warrentie and now have to use the after market warrentie. I may have spelled that wrong but i hope you understand the jist of what i mean. When I was in the mountains of verginia on route 81n very sweet view but i will say i was very lucky to not have gotten stock. So far the ALt looks to be the puppy. i will let you know

in the pontiac, the alternator would get HOT I think the bearings. I also think it was too small for the current draw from all the elctronics. Actually I went thru 4 in the 94 and three in the 98 (both Bonneville SSEis)

It is easy to check the alternator.

Well, if you have the sub, and this goes for anyone with a stereo, GET A CAPACITOR!!!! Trust me, it will be the best stereo upgrade u can buy! If you can afford more than one farad do it. It saves wear on your alternators. I have been heavily involved in stereo competions for years, and I have gone thru many alternators and batteries. After hooking up the capacitor, it pretty much eliminated the problem. If you have heavy wattage amps, I would recommend buying an optima battery, at least, and if you will run 2 batteries(optimal), one at the back just before the capacitor, which is just before the amp, you will get increased performance from your stereo, and less wear on your alternator, battery, and all of your electrical!

I cant see why they would sell some thing that has a issue with there cars electrical systems. I have no amps in the car the sub is a powered unit. I am going to get the ALT they are using in the Police cars.

I see that your signature is "lots of modding". I think that's your issue right there. Once you start messing around with these new cars, you run into problems like this. Cars now-a-days are too complicated to start messing with, without running into problems like this. Trust me, I design them.

Yes i do lots of modding but have not done any thing that would harm the electrical system in any way. I just got the car back and the dealer does not know what it is. This is the third battery that has been installed in this car and we still dont know why the car dies. I just put in a Interstate and wait till next time to see. No codes came up the ALT is good and the old battery checked out good ona test they had. So i put in a new battery. I will just have to wait and see. I wish i had more info so other would know but i dont have much of any thing to pass on.
