Considering a Magnum...
Hey all,
My mom is buying a new car and we are considering a Magnum. She likes the car, but she needs something that will give her ample space for her catering gigs and wants a "reliable car." I've heard that the Magnum looks bigger than it actually is. Can anyone attest to how much actual space the Magnum really has? When the seats are folded down is it flat or close to flat or are they sloped? Are there any reliability issues we should know about? Basically, she'd prefer a wagon to a van or SUV, but wants to know whether or not its worth it to get the Magnum instead of say the Grand Caravan which has Stow'n'Go (all seats fold flat into the floor).
Also, if we do get the Magnum are there any highly recommended or "MUST HAVE" options?
(Note: if it was up to me we'd be looking at the R/T or SRT...but unfortunately this car is for a 50 yr old woman.)

Sorry I cant tell you exactly how much cargo room there is, but I can tell you the seats when folded down do slope slightly. It wold be ok to haul most of the warming equipment and liquids. I recently went camping for a week, which also included a soccer tournament. The car held everything we needed for 4 people, including 3 ***** and 3 people equipment and still had the back seat for passengers. It held tent cooler sleeping bags for 4 clothes for 4 bbq stove lantern tarp and poles pillows and all the little things you need.
It is smaller than you think, it wont hold as much floor to roof as a van or SUV, but floor space will be more than ample I would think.
as for options, dont get an se, it will be underpowered and mileage will not be much better. I have full load minus the NAV, and I sorta wish I had it but, I knew I could buy aftermarket for less than 2000, and I love it, but it all depends on what you want, you really have to decide what is neccessary. I would say that an RT if you can afford it is the way to go.

You can fold or remove the rear floorboard and get a bit more space in the back. With the rear floor down there is a clearence of 22" from floor to top of opening. The farther you pack to the front of the car (back seat area) you have a bit more top clearance. IF you remove the back floorboard you get about another four inches of clearence at the opening. I like the car, I bought a three wheel bike for my wife, it was already put together for me. Removed the top floorboard and turned bike on its side, slid right in. The wheel base was 24".
