fuel milage
We all know the stickers are a joke! I am looking at an RT and would be happy with 18 MPG in my mixed commute. My wimpy Altima I drive now (don't ask- it was a hand me down from the wife when we bought a Jeep to haul around our baby and all her stuff) only gets about 21 in the same mix and has about 1/3 of the power. Our Jeep gets about 17 and is also anemic. My brother has an SXT Charger and thinks it gets great mileage considering the power it has. Don't forget too that RT runs on premium and the SXT runs on regular, so not only will your milege go down a bit, you will be paying more per gallon (around here in NJ it is a good $0.30 extra for the good stuff). I think the extra ponies on an RT are worth the small decrease in mileage over the SXT- nobody brags about a V6!
Ours get 19-21mpg on short trips to Walmart etc. In the interstate it's got 26mpg on the high end. If I drive it over 65mph the mileage starts dropping pretty fast.
Go for the RT. The SXT is useless.
I've had no real problems on my 05'. The stock tread was replaced at 22k miles ARG! It's an awesome ride.
It'll run 147mph I know!
The manual says 89 octane preferred but will run on 87 octane. I've had absolutely no problems on the cheap stuff when money was tight.

I bought the Hypertech tuner and tuned it for reg gas..More Hp and Trq than stock...will pay for itself in time....If you remote start your car you will lose mpg as you idle...I would say I get at least 20 mpg all the time with mid 20's on longer trips..I have a 10 mile commute to work so only when I go out of town do I see the #'s go up...HEMI will get I believe better mpg than the v-6 if you use cruise control and don't get (hard to resist) heavy footed at times...
I've got an '05 SXT here... For what it's worth, I'm averaging 23-24mpg... calculated by hand.
I would like to know how the RT people are getting the numbers they mentioned for mileage. I think that would change a lot of the discrepancies we see here. It's been my experience that the dash-calculators (in GM vehicles) are optimistic.
As for the SXT, I drive the car pretty hard. I do about 70 miles a day up and down the highway, with some side streets thrown in. When I'm not sitting in stop and go traffic, I'm hammering down the left lane.
The 3.5 is fun. Adequate is a pretty good word for it. I think the motor has all you'll really "need" to get by (and this is coming from a very serious motorhead here). No problems passing anyone, anywhere.
I would call the car sporty, if it wasn't for the weight. Still a really great car to throw around though, very well balanced and handles great. It's certainly still fun to hit apexes and drift out on the exits on these skinny 17's. The lack of a rear-sway' makes it all the more interesting.

Just wanted to share on a way to increase the apparent gas mileage of your Magnum.
While cruising at freeway speeds, reset your mpg calculation. I'm already getting 3-5 mpg better than I was (lol).

I've got an '07 R/T AWD. Just got back from a trip. Bucking a 30 mph wind, running 60-65 or so, and in some fairly hilly country, I got 21, and I romped on it a few times.Coming back the other way, ideal conditions, cruising at 60, and running through some small towns, it got 25, but I really babied it, and this is calculated mileage, although the computer is very close, I've found. In everday commuting (34 miles), with very little city driving, it does 19-20, depending on temperature. I'm running 87 octane, have tried premium with very little mileage gain, not enough to offset the extra price. One thing I have found is that it does NOT like ethanol blends, lose about 2 mpg running 89 octane ethanol blended gas.
i drive until the fuel light comes on
thats a good indication on how much gas i have used
all kidding aside, i can drive from dallas to houston on a tank and have about a quarter tank left
do too much in town/smashing gas to really get a good read.. i might have good gas mileage going until that jackass in the honda prelude with the oversized muffler makes me get at him on the freeway
