Have 1200 miles on my RT now, did change the oil at 1000 miles, to 10W30 oil.

All is well, no further problems.

Sounding good with Flowmasters on, just ordered the 360 air intake system.

Hey Bob,
The recommended oil weight for the RT is 5W 20. Have you noticed any issues with the 10W 30. Others have notice a drop in gas mileage when going to a different weight.

I know they say to use 5W20 oil, but since I am in Florida and it is warm all year round, I opted for the 10W30. That is the oil grade of choice down in the sunshine state.

Have noticed no change in MPG.

Manual says you may use a heavier oil, but that your mileage may drop a bit.

I just feel safer with a thicker oil.

Let me just say this....The biggest change I want is a chip that prevents my tranny from up shifting on its own. Give me that and I would be a very happy guy!

BREAKING NEWS--if Chrysler says to use 5W-20 don't you think there might be a reason. You’d think engineering and their decades of schooling and years of experience might know more than you. Here is a secret, that fancy MDS system everybody likes talking about but nobody understands how it works, it's like this. When you are at cruise the PCM turns off the fuel injectors, ignition coils AND closes oil flow to those lifters. When you step on the gas the PCM turns it all back on and its happens real fast. If you use to thick an oil the flow back to pump those lifters back up may delay and then the truck you are trying to pass may become an issue. Please don't assume that Chrysler does not know what they are talking about, sometimes they do and just don't tell you. Go back to the 5W-20 ASAP. Pretty much everything in the engine is roller now and requires very little oil for lubrication, Main bearings only require 3PSI to float so adding that thicker oil is doing nothing for your car except hurting it. Sorry to sound condescending, I deal with customers who know more about their cars then I do all day, it becomes second nature.

I email Mobil several months ago and asked them the same question. They said that their 0w-20 oil meets all the specifications of the 5w- 20 and can be used in place of 5w-20.

heh, I told someone the same thing. Whoever it was seemed to think that living in Florida means he should run 0W-20. Said that the warmer temps meant he should use a different oil. Then I pointed out that the manual makes big deal of NOT using ANY OTHER oil beside 5W-20. The odd part is that 0W-20 is thinner, is it not? (I would think you would want to go thicker if you were in a hot area....)

Isn't the vehicle's computer programmed to have the car run at a set temp?

Page 286 of the owners manual says that the recommended oil is 5W20, and that if you use a higher viscosity oil, your mileage may be reduced. (Hemi engine.)

Nowhere does it say you can't use a thicker oil.

For the V6 engines, the manual says to use 5W20 or 5W30 oils, and shows that you can use a 10W30 oil in warmer climates.

Since when does oil get pumped to a fuel injector? Your engine's oiling system works all the time, to ALL parts of the engine, including the lifters.

Sorry, but I see no harm in using a thicker oil, maybe a little less MPG - but no damage.
At the most I might lose 1 MPG, probably less.

And I also like to do the first oil change when the car has 500-1000 miles on it.
I guess I am just from the old school, if it ain't broke - don't fix it.
