Solid State Voltage Limiter
I've been wanting to switch out my current voltage limiter on the back of my gauges for a solid state limiter. They say they are more stable and feed a constant 5 volts to the gauges without that annoying spike you might see from time to time. Well this company sells them for around $40.00:gcatrim Then I saw a post about building one yourself. I had seen the tech aryticle before but decided to try it mysself. It looks simple. Here's the link to the article:Voltage Limiter Well I went out and bought the items that I need for the mod. I managed to buy all the parts from Radio Shack for $4.27. Hope this helps anybody that might want to upgrade their voltage limiter or if your not into making one then buy one from gcartrim.
Well I started the soldering of the Solid State VL. After going through the steps of the article I found out that I was able to vary the procedure a bit but it would still work if you followed it. I still have to solder the original top board terminals but that's about it. I tested it and with 12VDC input it puts out 4.93VDC constant. I imagine that if you would buy ten Voltage Regulators they would all have a slightly different output but 4.93VDC is very close. I should have it ready to install tomorrow. Now for the hard part, getting under the dash....
Not bad for less then $5.00
