I'm going to guess that you are not subject to any emissions regs. since you are asking about this.
Put duals on the car, get a 4-barrel carb & intake, a 340 cam and valve springs. The trouble with the 5th ave. is the weight. That thing is heavy. I would probably look around for a set of gears, or rearend. That will make a huge difference.
