Can Someone Tell about Hood Scoop

Hi, can anyone let me know what this scoop is for? Its been sitting for a long while and cant remember for nothing. Thanks

Appears to be a scoop for 69-70 Mach 1 Mustang, perhaps other Fords as well.
do a search on Ford hood scoops you'll see more.
