Default This is crazy

For a number of years I kept seeing a 1969 Dodge Coronet 440 (318 ci) sitting under a carport at a home near me. I finally went to the home and asked if the man would sell the car. It's a 2 door hardtop in semi-rough condition as it has been sitting many years. It has a little rust here and there and many several problems like both windshield and rear glass being resealed, heater rigged by toggle switch, bumpers having to be rechromed, all hoses, belts replaced, painted, etc, etc. Anyway, I asked him what he would take. He stated he looked on the internet and the car was between a 3 and 4 (really 4 and 5)and it said he's take between "14 and 17". I said I would go 15 and he said he would think about it. Next day after having to buy a battery to get the thing going he said he would take "17". I got my check book and after he signed the bill of sale I started to write the check for $1700.00. He then said no no, $17,000! I stated laughing and said that's funny, but he said he wasn't kidding. I just stood there and couldn't believe my ears. Now this man is a nice guy and I didn't want to tell him he was crazy, but after looking at a number of webpages I found the page he was refering to. It was a HEMI car. Now, should I point out his mistake or go on and let the car just sit there with him thinking this is a goldmine? The internet has really messed this up as I really wanted this car. I feel like I offered him a fair price but he has mistaken the cars value. What should I do? He wanted to give this car to his grandkids but they didn't have room for it.

i would go tell him that he is a jackass, and when you do, take a picture of a Hemi engine, and a picture of a 318 with you.
